Message from your Proud Principal

Parsons Families,

As some of you know, comics are one of my favorites. As a child I can remember running to the end of the driveway each Sunday morning to retrieve the Sunday paper for the prized comic section of the newspaper. There is so much to infer from comics and I learned some valuable life lessons as an avid comic reader. One of my favorites is this rare Whitman comic, from December of 1980, where Winnie the Pooh is ready to catch a wobbly Piglet. From Winnie, I learned the character of a friend and how they help those in need and encourage them to persevere. As I've grown older, I see that it's not just Winnie whose character shines in this comic; it's all the animals. Squirrel and Tigger are right there also, encouraging Piglet and ensuring his safety. As in the Hundred Acre Wood, all of us in the Parsons community are here for our students as they take risks to learn and grow. As they walk the tight rope of life, we are all here for them, encouraging them along the way, and for this I am grateful.

With Gratitude,

Mrs. Clark

Winter Class Parties

It's Partytime! Our classes will be hosting their Winter Class Parties this week in celebration of the winter season. A special shout out to the roomparents for all you have done in preparing for this fun time. As we continue to 'limit access to students' due to Covid, we are asking only roomparents and one helper attend the class parties. If you are sending in party items, you can either have your student bring them to school or you can drop them off at the front office. We will have a table set up in the lobby. Please be sure to have the teacher's name on the items so we can deliver them to the correct room. Thank you for making this time of year so special for our kiddos.

Class Party Dates:

Wednesday, December 15-Kindergarten, First, and Second

Thursday, December 16-Third, Fourth, and Fifth

Principal for the Day

What a special week! We had 12 students who served as Principal for the Day this week in recognition for their donations to our PTA fundraiser. They started their day greeting students at arrival and then broadcasting live on the morning announcements. Some of the other principal duties included posting events on our social media pages, writing news for the parent eNews, making special gifts for our staff, and walking the school to ensure safety. One group of student principals walked the building and prepared a list of items that need the attention of facilities and maintenance. Thank you for serving as Principal for the Day and making a difference.

December Dress Up Challenge

As we count down the days to Winter Break, let's have some fun! Each day in December our students and staff are challenged to dress up in celebration of the upcoming break.

Schoolwide Reading Program: Biblionasium

Just a reminder that our Schoolwide Reading Program is in full force. We began in September, and it will continue through the end of March. Each student must have 2,500 reading minutes entered by the end of March to qualify for the reading reward in May. Minutes must be entered into Biblionasium. There is a help video on Mrs. Britt's Media Center eCLASS page. We have a monthly competition among grade levels, and 4th grade won for the month of October for having the most minutes entered. They earned an extra book checkout for the month of November. What grade level will be the winner for November? We want all of our students at Parsons to enjoy reading for pleasure and develop a love for reading. Please encourage your student(s) to enter their minutes into Biblionasium each week. The parent letter from Curriculum Night is attached for further information. In addition, your student(s) can continue to participate in the reading programs offered at the Gwinnett County Public Library such as Grow Good Readers, Feed Your Brain, and the yearly Summer Reading Challenge using Beanstack.

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing. Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form in the front office no later than 12:00 PM the day of the change. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: no passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons, we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls or emails.

Student Check Out

Anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM. For assistance in updating contact information on the Parent Portal, please visit https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11430.
