Birth Control Pill
What is It? - a kind of medication a female can take daily to prevent pregnancy.
How effective is it? - when taken correctly it can be up to 99% effectiveness.
How is it used? - it's a pill that is taken by the mouth.
Birth control pills only protect against pregnancies.
Advantages: Can buy it anywhere, easy to take.
Disadvantages: Only protects against pregnancies. Only females can use.
Male Condom
A male condom is a latex barrier device that may be used during sexual intercourse to prevent pregnancies and STI's. A condom is very effective if used correctly. The male uses before sexual intercourse and it's used by putting the condom on your penis.
Advantages: Protects both pregnancies/STI's, easy to find.
Disadvantages: Could break, they expire.
Abstinence
abstinence- is a self-enforced restraint from indulging in bodily activities.
This birth control method is 100% effective because how can you get pregnant if you don't have sex.
Advantages: !00% effective, protects both pregnancies and STI's
Disadvantages: No sexual activities
Fertility Awareness
Refers to a set of practices used to determine the fertile and infertile phases of a woman's menstrual cycle. This method is effective if you do it correctly. If a couple doesn't have sex around the time of ovulation, female is less likely to get pregnant. This method only protects against pregnancies.
Advantages: No medical side effects, woman to understand their cycle.
Disadvantages: Doesn't protect against STI's.
Withdrawal
A birth control method that prevents ejaculating in the vagina also known as the pull out method. This method is NOT very effective. This only protects against pregnancies.
Advantages: Nothing is needed, don't have to spend money on it.
Disadvantages: It is not effective.
Sponge
Prevents sperm from entering the uterus. Is a soft, disk shaped device made of polyurethane foam that is inserted into the vagina. This method is highly effective, but only protects against pregnancies.
Advantages: Very common and can buy it anywhere.
Disadvantages: Can't be left in there for more than 30 hours or will cause infections.
