From the desk of Mrs. Harrison

Happy Almost-Spring! Can you feel the change in the air? Do you see the azaleas and tulip trees blooming? I do, and I can tell you it totally recharges my system. In this same vein, recharging and reinvigorating our kiddos throughout the next few months are our highest priority. The upcoming month of March will continue to focus on reading, written expression, higher order thinking, and STEAM activities that will ensure our kiddos get the best education possible! As we head into this month, a HUGE thank you to the following groups for help making the past year a success: to our School Council for their valuable input, to our ladies out front who open doors and welcome our children with smiles each morning, to our AMAZING parent volunteers who helped make the KISS luncheon smooth as can be, to our many, many parents who volunteer their time helping children out in the hallways each morning, and of course to all of our hard-working staff who make it a pleasure and blessing to come to school each and every day!

March is a busy month to be sure, but a fun one :) Make sure to look at the events listed at the end of this newsletter so you can make sure to put them on your calendar and be involved.

Enjoy this spring-like weather--only 5 more weeks to go until Spring Break!

The following items are not meant for you to share with your children-- they are already getting these resources and more from their teachers. This is meant to serve as a guide for you as we travel through Milestones testing together. That way, you know what your child(ren) will be asked to do in April. We are preparing our children as much as possible through higher order thinking, problem-solving activities, and through making sure that our assessments are aligned with Milestones. Our goal is to make sure that children are comfortable with the format of the tests, and will shine! If you have any questions about Milestones, feel free to call me anytime at school!

News from the Media Center - February 2017

Thank you to everyone who visited our last book fair. It was a HUGE success, giving us record sales for this time of year. We earned a cash profit of approximately $4000 and over $2000 in Scholastic Dollars for books and materials!! Incredible!

I would like to remind everyone who has not purchased a yearbook for this school year that they will be on sale through April 17th. If you would like to have your child's yearbook personalized, the last day for that is February 24th. The cost of the yearbooks is $30. Ordering is easy: you can order online at jostens.com or using the order form found on the site or our

Brooks Elementary website http://www.cowetaschools.org/brooks/

Birthday Book Club members will be recognized in March. There is still time for students to join. BBC forms can be downloaded from the Brooks website under the media center tab.

The week after we return from our winter break is Read Across America in honor of the author the late Dr. Seuss. I would like to have volunteers come in and read to classes on Friday March 3rd, which is his actual birthday. If you are interested in reading to a class or two, please let me know.

Also, after the break, Six Flags Reading forms are due on February 28th.

Thank you for your continued support of Brooks Media Program.

A big "Thank You" to everyone who helped our students at Christmas by purchasing gifts that were needed for the Angel Tree. The response from everyone was overwhelming......we truly have many Angels among us who care deeply about all of our Brooks Broncos.

Thank you,
