Mr. Costello’s Newsletter

For the Week of December 1 - 5 , 2014

Skills This Week

Letters of the Month: We are reviewing A - Z!

Numbers of the Month: Review for Mastery 1 - 15 and continue discovery of 16, 17, 18, 19, 20

Sight Words: Review and have fun to mastering the Unit 1 words this month. I will send home another set of unit one words this week. Please feel free to make flashcards, add in to games, use as word hunts that gain prizes for finding and identifying words hidden around the house, or otherwise make it enjoyable to practice.

A Few Words about Homework

Homework in Kindergarten is as simple or enriched as you make it at home. You can do the packets weekly and get good solid practice of the skills we cover. Using the numbers, letters, their sounds and sight words in combination with games, reading together and drilling them out of order throughout the normal routines of your day will significantly increase and strengthen their academic foundations.

Students will be making their own alphabet (uppercase and lowercase) drill decks for use at home over vacations and long weekends. These will come home by December 17, 2014. Please take full advantage of these hands on learning tools. Try Reading Confetti for great ideas.

Dates to watch out for this month. Homework is given every Monday and due back the following Monday with the exception of the vacation packet as it will be more extensive.

  • Due 12/8 are the math and letter book activities.
  • Due 12/15 are the Alphabet review work and the counting with missing numbers activities.
  • Due 12/22 are the Reading logs going home 12/3.
  • Due 1/7/14 will be the vacation reading log and writing activities.
