A Christmas background
John Brouns
In the industrial revolution many 50% of children that lived in poverty died from a certain disease like smallpox, typhus, and typhoid. Over 1,850 children were in poverty and they worked in shoe shining businesses, catching mice, or coal mining many were just trying to pay off their family dept.
Charles dickens took influence from his own life and put some of those things in his books. The new inventions of the industrial revolution was the steam engine, and the spinning jenny. Also there were many people that were not in poverty about 30,000 people in fact. Over 1,000 people migrated to Victorian London for jobs and hopefully a better pay than that they got in the country that they came from. Charles dickens was born in a somewhat big town in London. 200 people died a year in Victorian London for many years.
