California Healthy Kids Staff/California School Staff Survey (CSSS)
Please take some time to complete the following survey this week if at all possible.
https://surveys.wested.org/cscs/GV249GC
The cost-effective, online staff survey assesses the perceptions and experiences of K-12 teachers, administrators, and other school personnel (intended for all grades). The results are intended to help:
address the problem of low teacher-recruitment, morale, and retention;
guide professional development and school improvement efforts; and
determine the degree to which staff perceptions align with the attitudes and experiences of students and parents as identified by the other CalSCHLS surveys.
An important influence on the development of the CSSS is research showing that school climate is a powerful predictor of outcomes among staff as it is for students. This includes teacher job satisfaction and retention. A positive climate for staff is a prerequisite for a positive climate for students.
The CSSS:
provides comparison data to the questions and constructs asked students in the CHKS Core and supplementary School Climate Modules;
addresses the working environment and conditions, including staff relationships (collegiality), organizational expectations and norms, and meaningful participation in decisions;
encapsulates the scope and nature of existing student supports, programs, and services (e.g., discipline, counseling, health, and prevention); and
assesses parent supports and involvement.

Kindness Slips for December!
Yellow Kindness Slips for December! Catch a student being kind and give them a Kindness Slip! These slips are returned to the office and our special drawing will take place on Fri., 12/20.
On the same note, we also have to hold our students accountable for undesired behaviors. That's where Fix-It tickets are to be used. Our students aren't perfect and they are going to make mistakes. A Fix-It ticket should be used as an opportunity to reflect on the undesired behavior and make amends with another party. When students know that classified staff members are holding them to the PAW Pledge both for rewards and consequences, we will help all students do a better job displaying the expected behaviors around school each day!
Updated Board Policies
Please review the updated Board Policies and ensure you are familiar with the changes.
There are major changes to BP 5132 Dress and Grooming. We used to be very nitty-gritty about what clothing students can and cannot wear. This new districtwide policy is much more general and it is focused on equity. We are no longer policing short length, shoulder strap widths, among other things. Again, you are to review and be familiar with the changes.
Request for Leave Forms
VACATIONS: It is very important not to book a vacation during the school year without prior approval from the principal. Vacation and PN requests must be preapproved and two people supporting the same program will not be approved for overlapping release time for vacations and PN except in case of an emergency. Please plan ahead and communicate in a timely manner.
Interpreter Services
To request an in-person interpreter, fill out the online Interpreter Request form (below) with the required information to submit your interpreter request.
A minimum of two weeks notice is needed for an "in-person" interpreter. On occasion, an interpreter can be found on shorter notice, but that is generally not the norm and should not be expected. An email will be sent on your behalf to request an interpreter within 24 hours of the first workday after your request has been received. You will be included on that email and will be notified via email when your interpreter request has been filled.
For last-minute interpreting needs, you and the family can use the Language Line. Click the link for the directions.
