Anti-Reconstruction

Why Texans hated Reconstruction and Carpetbaggers
Reconstruction was hard for Texans. Residents of Texas had to pledge their loyalty to the U.S., abolish slavery, and declare that secession from the Union was illegal. Texans hated this. They also hated that they had to abolish slavery. They liked having slaves because the slaves did all the labor. They didn't have to do any labor themselves. Texans hated carpetbaggers because they kind of just invaded the South. They were taking advantage of cheap land prices and buying up all of the land.
