GRE Staff Newsletter
For the week of October 6, 2019
Dear Team,
Ahhh...it's good to be home! It was great meeting the students and teachers at BWMS but nothing is as good as coming home to GRE! I love our school. I love the feeling I get when I walk through the doors. The smiles, the laughter, and the endless hugs. Think back to our waiver day and I gave you yet another quote..."Love what you do, where you do it, and who you do it with". So true friends!
When I am able, I like to sit down during lunch and eat with a table. We talk about all kinds of things. Favorite foods, weekend plans, you name it, we talk about it. Half the time I have no idea what they are talking about, but I'm still excited to hear about it. The best part about this time is what I learn about students. How they interact with each other, what connections are happening with other classmates, how they are feeling about GRE. I learn so much.
Lunch is such an important part of the day for our students. Right now, our students are struggling with three things: 1. Staying in their seat until an adult gives permission for them to get something; 2. Keeping their voice level at a reasonable level; 3. Getting quiet as soon as an adult raises their hand. Please discuss these during your morning meetings this week to help our lunch room teachers. I've been brainstorming some other ideas and incentives to make our lunch room fun and safe! If you have ideas-I would love to hear them!
Here's to an awesome week!

2. We will have a staff meeting on Tuesday morning at 7:30. Light breakfast will be served and we will continue our work to tackle and dive deeper into Tier I instruction. Here is the agenda for Tuesday morning.
3. Schoology definitely had a rocky start; thank you for hanging in there with it! Starting the second quarter, we'd like to bring our focus back to the year-one essentials:
- Regularly update the Calendar with any important events
- Use Updates to communicate with students and/or parents to send announcements, reminders, etc.
With any new tool, it can be overwhelming, so please reach out if you need any support!
4. I met with our custodial team on Thursday. One of the topics that we talked about was the cleanliness of the backpack area and the main hallways. While we brainstormed how to keep these areas clean we also would like to ask for your help. Please let your students know that if they spill something in this area, they should let you know. Many of these snack messes can be easily cleaned up if addressed right when it happens. In addition...for all of us coffee drinkers...our open cups of coffee are leaving quite a trail throughout the building. Let's help keep our hallways clean by using travel mugs with a lid. The paper version of this is available in my office every day if you need a fresh cup of joe.
5. A follow up on our Syntero services; if you have a student you would like to refer for individual or group, please send Chelsea Heban and I an email with the info rather than asking Sam directly. Chelsea and I try to triage how to prioritize which students are seen based on student need. Sam has a couple more class lessons but will then be moving from classroom lessons to more space for individual/group. If you have questions, please let me know.
