Titans United: Together We Shine
April 30, 2021
Greetings Benfield Parents and Guardians-
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Please honor your child's teacher by participating in the fun events we have planned for them below.
It's hard to believe that we are gearing up for end-of-year (EOY) activities. Two big events that we have scheduled are our PreK-4 Virtual Awards Night and our 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony. The PreK-4 Virtual Awards Night is scheduled on May 20, 2021 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. We will be honoring students who have earned Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, and/or who have made significant progress this year.
The 5th Grade Promotion Ceremonies will be held in person on May 24, 2021 and May 25, 2021 at Benefield Elementary School. For safety reasons, we are limiting each 5th grade student to two visitors. Tickets will be sent home on Friday, May 7, 2021 with students who are in-person learners. Tickets for digital students can be picked up May 17-19, 2021. Masks will be required.
Proud to serve you,
Mrs. Stevens

There's value in putting numbers into words
Writing numbers out in word form is a good way for your child to understand the mathematical concept of "place value." Give your child a list of four or five numbers, such as 562, 73, 184, 16 and 43. Have him write them in words: five hundred sixty-two, seventy-three and so on. Talk about how the words go from the highest place value to the lowest. Then give your child the words and ask him to write the numbers.

Celebrate May holidays with learning
Memorial Day (May 31) is only one of the holidays you and your child can celebrate with learning this month. Practice kindness to a pet during Be Kind to Animals Week (May 2-8). Write limericks on Limerick Day (May 12). Discuss tolerance, inclusion, and understanding on the International Day of Living Together in Peace (May 16). Read about aviation on the anniversary of Charles Lindbergh's historic flight (May 21).
Do you need help with reading to your child?
Benefield teachers have created a collection of videos to help families get the most out of reading to their young children.
These videos are available on the Benefield eClass homepage.
Biblionasium
Benefield now has access to Biblionasium, an online platform that allows students to build a bookshelf of favorite books and log their reading. Click here for more information on how to access Biblionasium through the media catalog.
