School Counseling Information
Grade 12: The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving (HFPG) offers a generous scholarship program to students who live in or attend school in a 29-town region of the Greater Hartford area. South Windsor High School seniors are eligible to apply. HFPG has opened the application process for this season. There are some important facts and key dates to keep in mind. Seniors planning to attend a four-year college or university can apply now to the largest pool of scholarships using just one application that qualifies them for over 65 awards. These are $3,000 renewable scholarships, meaning students will receive that amount each of the four years of an undergraduate education. These awards are administered by Scholarship America, and students must apply by January 11, 2022 at 4 p.m. to be considered. Additionally, HFPG offers over 60 individual scholarships, each with its own unique criteria. These scholarships may be used at both two- and four-year colleges as well as vocational programs. These applications are due February 1, 2022. To learn more about the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving's scholarship programs, visit https://www.hfpgscholarships.org/. Applicants can create an account to have access to the complete list of scholarships. This program is also listed in Naviance, where more scholarship information will be posted and updated throughout the winter months.
Grade 11: 11th Grade Parent/Guardian Night will be on Wednesday, January 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the SWHS auditorium. This event will focus on college/career planning, grade 12 course scheduling, standardized testing information and will include an 18-month timeline/checklist. Information covered during this program will also be covered by school counselors in 11th grade classrooms prior to Winter Recess, thus students do not need to attend this Parent/Guardian night. Please connect with your school counselor with any questions or for further information.
Grades 9-11: PSAT scores will be released very soon. Some parents, guardians and/or students will receive an email directly from CollegeBoard regarding their scores. Feel free to follow the instructions within that email to access the student’s score report. School counselors will be making their way through each grade level via classroom lessons in order to ensure all students can access their score report, as well as further explain how these scores/CollegeBoard testing relates to their life and future plans. Please connect with your school counselor with any questions or for further information.
