Principal's Pen

Dear Bishop Baraga Trekkers,

Catholic Schools Week has arrived! I was at the 10 a.m. Mass at St. Mary & St. Joseph's yesterday and it was so great to see all that Bishop Baraga blue! The students did a fantastic job reading, ushering, greeting, etc. I'm always so proud to see them participate so confidently in the liturgy. It's not easy to stand up in front of a congregation and lector or serve, but our students do this on a regular basis and so are naturally comfortable participating in the liturgy. What a blessing!

This entire week is a big celebration of Catholic education, and for us, we are especially grateful for the 65 years that BBCS has been a part of our local community. As parents we make a lot of sacrifices to provide a Catholic education for our children, but by doing so, we show them at a very early age that Christ is the center of our lives and the purpose for all we learn and do. Thank you for having the courage and fortitude to choose Catholic education for your children!

As far as details on the week's activities, please check schoolspeak. I would like to extend a special invitation for you to join us for adoration or benediction on Tuesday at St. Mary and St. Joseph's Church. Exposition will be at noon, and then each class will spend some time in silent prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament. At 2:15 p.m. we will have benediction with Father Janusz. The children have been practicing a few special songs to sing right before benediction. I imagine sometimes how much it must please the Lord to hear our children sing. It is so precious. So please join us if you are able!

7th/8th Grade Art Class

In art class with Mrs. Couper, our 7th and 8th graders learned about Ted Harrison, one of Canada's most famous and popular artists. He spent a great deal of time in the Yukon where his inspiration came from the land and its people. His colorful style was both distinctive and charming and appealed to people of all ages. The students were introduced to Mr. Harrison in art class, where they learned, in his own words, about his artistic presentations. Below you can see the students' work inspired by this artist.

Third Grade Handwriting

Each year, our third grade class learns to write in cursive. This is sometimes considered a lost art and something that does not need to be taught in schools today. At BBCS we think it is an important life skill that each student should master. Below you can see how hard the third graders have been working to master cursive!

Local Walk for Life

Thank you to all those who joined our local pro-life group in our annual Walk for Life. Many of our Bishop Baraga families were there to pray for an end to abortion.

Bishop John stated in his homily on Friday, during the Mass for Life, "Since the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, over 60 million people in the United States have not been born. When we think of the incomparable dignity of every human life, what a tragic loss this is for our country! Our dignity is not rooted in what we can accomplish, or our looks or our talents, but in who we are as God’s beloved daughters and sons. Your life and every life make a difference as an image of God present and alive in the world."
