Updates from the VDOE
The VSCA Regional Reps have been in communication with Joe Wharff, School Counseling Specialist, at the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). Here are the updates that Joe shared with us:
- The VDOE is requesting that school counselors enter the STIs of all students currently enrolled in a Virtual Virginia course into the Virtual Virginia student information system by February 15, 2016. Questions go to Mark Saunders at mark.saunders@doe.virginia.gov
- Credit waivers, for courses through VDOE, available for seniors coming in after first 20 hours of instruction or for extenuating circumstances. P.E. requirement can be waived for Juniors or Seniors if coming from a school that does not require P.E. and would create overload coursework. You CANNOT waive virtual credit, Economics and Personal Finance, or Industry Credential. Contact Joe Wharff at joseph.wharff@doe.virginia.gov with questions.
CTE Online Resources
R U Ready? and Ready or Not? are available online to be used as career prep/pathways resources. A PDF version for print of each is available on the CTE website (link provided below). The targeted audience is 10th grade, but can be used in grades 6-12. It includes planning for life after high school, parent guide, and teacher guide. They can be found at: http://www.cteresource.org/links/career_resources.html
