THE RAPP REPORT Anita "RAPPS" It Up
BROTHERS FOOD & WINE
The city’s best new restaurant is so nondescript as to be invisible. Occupying a former greasy spoon that’s cheek-to-cheek with Bay Station, the entire place is no bigger than a railroad car. Christopher White and Jonathan Nicolaou, the bearded, bearish guys in charge, didn’t bother to announce the November opening with a big social media campaign. They seemed to hope the curious would wander in, note the jug of wildflowers in the window and the double fridge packed with phenomenal wines, like what they see and never want to leave.

Sales Up and Listings Down in February
March 3, 2017 -- Toronto Real Estate Board President Larry Cerqua announced that Greater Toronto Area REALTORS® reported 8,014 residential sales through TREB's MLS® System in February 2017. Despite the fact that February 2016 had one more day due to the leap year day, this result was up on a year-over-year basis by 5.7 per cent compared to 7,583 sales reported last year.
"The February statistics tell me that many Greater Toronto Area households continue to view home ownership as a great long-term investment. The high demand for ownership housing we're seeing is broad-based, with strong sales growth for most low-rise home types and condominium apartments. This makes sense given the results of a recent consumer survey undertaken for TREB by Ipsos, which found an even split between intending first-time buyers and existing homeowners who indicated that they were planning on purchasing a home in 2017," said Cerqua.
5 Tips for Home Buyers Frightened of the Toronto Real Estate Market
I’s a wild time now within the Toronto housing market — supply and demand is out of whack, prices are soaring out of reach, and competition is so fierce dreams are over before they even begin.
What’s more, the credit checks and new intake of a mortgage payment is more than enough to push prospective first-time home buyers into a frenzy.

Restaurant Nostalgia with Some of Toronto's Old Dining Haunts
La Chaumiere Restaurant at 77 Charles Street East, near Church Street, opened in 1950, and was the city’s first truly French dining establishment.
Another popular restaurant was the Three Small Rooms in the Windsor Arms Hotel. The hotel was a favourite of Hollywood stars such as Katharine Hepburn. Another restaurant I remember fondly, always appropriate for special occasions, was Winston’s at 120 King Street West. It was expensive, but the food was wonderful. It was reported that John Turner had his own table at Winston’s. La Scala on the southeast corner of Bay and Charles was great Italian food; it was frequented by the Ontario Cabinet of Bill Davis. Mr. Tony’s Place at 100 Cumberland Avenue in Yorkville was also highly popular, even though it offered no printed menus.

NEWSGIRLS - Gutsy Pioneers in Canada's Newsrooms
Our good friend Donna Jean MacKinnon’s Newsgirls tells the stories of ten pioneering female reporters who brazened it out in Canadian newsrooms from the late 1920s into the 1960s. Their stories explain how women like Stasia Evasuk, June Callwoood, Michele Landsberg, and many more succeeded in a male milieu.
With fancy hats, dark lips, a penchant for cigarettes and a stomach for strong drink, these women would sit in their female-designated areas of Canadian newsrooms, and fervently punch out stories on their typewriters; the aim: to get it all out as quickly as possible, so they could be out the door with a pen and paper on the hot trail of a new one.
Their jobs as female journalists take them around the world, but when their stories begin to sound star-studded and frivolous, their work remains serious and noteworthy. Many of these female reporters paved the way for women in the media to be taken seriously – and with caution.

I’ve been told that if one person actually writes to me with a problem, that represents a thousand with a similar situation. Three in one day tells me this is a common problem.
