a monthly e-newsletter from the Great Valley School District
OCTOBER 2018 - Special Edition
Read Around the World
As part of the district-wide summer reading effort, elementary students were encouraged to “read around the world.” Every minute read counted as one mile. Pictured here are the top three readers from General Wayne Elementary School who alone traveled almost 21,000 miles.
We are very proud of all of our elementary student readers!
GVHS Goes to Pitt
Students from our HS Biology 2 class traveled to the University of Pittsburgh to take part in research opportunities targeted at ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Great Valley and Coatesville have both partnered with Pitt.
Students Recognized as "Makers"
Three former KDM students were recently featured on Tynker’s website. Students used the Tynker app for their Coding Unit in STEAM classes. The students were identified as “makers” for games they had coded. Their games attracted a large Tynker community following.
