Las Positas Updates

4/1/22 Volume 1 (31)

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday.

It was so great seeing everyone back!

Now we have 2 months of school left, and we are seeing amazing progress in student achievement. As I visit classrooms, there are many exciting projects driven by student voice. We can't wait to show it off.

Our parent volunteers have worked extremely efficiently to finish the school yearbook. The yearbook sale has commenced, and to make it easier for you, they will be in front of the school next Wednesday from 1 -2 PM. Please bring exact change ($15). Click Yearbook Flyer for more detail. We will also have Las Positas t-shirts for sale, if you missed it last time.

For the month of April, we celebrate the IB trait of Risk-takers or being courageous.

The IB Learner Profile aims to develop students who are risk-takers. Students who are risk-takers are able to approach unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with courage and forethought. They have the independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas and strategies. Risk-takers are brave and articulate in defending their beliefs.

IB students transition well to challenging settings and show resilience and determination in their work. In academics, they have the confidence to approach new or unfamiliar subjects or material.

Have a great weekend~

Starting at the end of April, our students will begin the SBAC testing window. This is the annual test on the Common Core Standards that all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students take during the school year. Because this test is so important, we would like to ask for your help in getting your child prepared to do his/her best on this test. Below are a few things you can do to help your child have a successful testing experience:

  • Get your child to bed on time or a little early (a well-rested student will test better).

  • Provide a good, healthy breakfast before leaving for school or have them arrive at 7:40 to eat breakfast at school.

  • Communicate with your child that this test is important. Encourage your child to do his/her very best.

  • Make sure your child is here. Get to school on time to allow your child to feel relaxed and unrushed. More than ever, being on time is critical to successful testing experiences.
