OP LIBRARY

March 2016 Newsletter

FULL STEAM AHEAD!

Recently the OP school library has been increasing the amount of materials we have that reflect STEAM topics. These books are in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Do you have a child interested in these areas? Just send us a note or have them ask the library teacher and we can point your student in the right direction.

Below are some of our titles:

READ ACROSS AMERICA

Read Across America

March 2nd. Ontario Primary School will join many schools across the nation in celebrating Read Across America Day on Dr. Seuss's Birthday. Each classroom will have a guest reader sharing a favorite book with the students. The read aloud event will be first thing in the morning and kick off the day. Parents or older siblings could finish off the day by reading one of their favorite books to the family or everyone could share in a family read time before bed. What a wonderful way to explore the excitement and pleasures of reading.

What's happening in the School Library

Kindergarten students have been working on the beginning, middle, and the end of fiction stories. Ask you child about the story Lucky Ducklings, the true story of a brood of ducklings who fell through a grate into a storm cellar in Long Island. The First grade classes are studying the main idea in fiction books and will continue with this unit for a few more weeks. The Second grade students are about to begin the Non-fiction books unit. They will learn how to gain information from true texts using special features and teasing out the answers to questions. The first week of March they will be introduced to our school's computer library catalog-Destiny. You can find the link on your home computer by:

1. Opening the Wayne Central School District Website

2. Go to the left side and click on Libraries

3. Click on Ontario Primary School Library

4. Click on Destiny, you need to scroll down a tiny bit.

Thats it! Now your child can find out what books we own by any author or on any subject they want.
