This is your Captain Speaking!
Hello Birdneck Family,
I'd like you to join me in welcoming our newest members of the Birdneck Family. Christine Dunavan will be joining us as a .2 music teacher and Pamela Smith is now a member of our night custodial staff. We are very excited to have these ladies join us.
Our teachers in Pre-K through 2nd Grade had the opportunity to get professional development from Dan St. Romain this week. The feedback I received was that they were immediately able to apply strategies in their classroom. If you have a chance to ask them about what was learned I highly suggest you take advantage of the opportunity.
PBIS has been effective in our cafeteria, particularly when adults are rewarding students with eggs. There are plenty of blank egg forms in an envelope on the wall by the teacher desk in the cafeteria. When dropping off your students, please take a moment to give out complements to some of the students you see displaying SOAR behavior in the cafeteria. The more complements we give out the more likely we are to reinforce the expected behaviors. The survey that went out this week was to gather information on your interests so we can reward teachers who are most likely to recognize students with an egg in our cafeteria.
Captain Out,
RV Yoshida
Donations For Kids and Classrooms
First Presbyterian Church and Great Neck MS Guidance have re stocked our School Supply Closet. Please help yourself to whatever you need for your students.
First Presbyterian Church has also provided us with new underwear, socks, and pants for our students in need. They are located in our Coat/Clothing Closet (inside the old Guidance Suite). And students from Cox High School have donated a multitude of gently used clothing, coats and shoes for our students. You can access the Coat/Clothing Closet throughout the school day or email me any specific requests.
Lastly, don’t forget to come by the former Guidance Suite and pick up your box of Kleenex and bottle of hand sanitizer that was generously donated by First Presbyterian Church for each of classrooms.

Shout Outs!
If you would like to give a SHOUT OUT to a colleague, it is as simple as sending an email to RV to be added to our Shout Outs each week!
TERESA STEWART deserves a shout out for taking on the task of coordinator for the Dan St. Romain training this week. She did a fabulous job scheduling everything and acting as a liaison between our school, the Title 1 office, and Mr. St. Romain.
Kuddos to BONNIE HARTMAN and NANCY BISHOP. Many have no idea what they do to support our school because they never ask for praise and are often incognito in the way they contribute to Birdneck. They do an unbelievable amount of work "behind the scenes" to support our school as the family engagement coordinators. They attend workshops, plan events and collaborate with central office, parents, and community members to ensure we provide opportunities for our students and parents. These ladies attend every event and continue to look for ways to strengthen our community.
Today we had a special visit from Rashard Wright who recognized two of our teachers for the Great Dreams need Great Teachers program. Congratulations to CHRISTINE HAYES and JOSH WHITE. You can read about them soon on the VBCPS website at http:.//www.vbschools.com/greatteachers/. Congratulations and thank you for "making a difference."
Congrats to MARIA BAIR our "Tagged by the Superintendent" recipient! Mrs. Bair wears hundreds of hats here at Birdneck and always does so with complete professionalism and a smile on her face.
