The end is near....

Leola Families, students and friends-

It is hard to believe that May is here and we will be winding down the school year in the next 20 days. It has been a great school year and also a lot of fun. We enjoyed our new Parent TAG team as well as the activities planned. We enjoyed having parents in for multiple events, and also the parent help that came along with it. Meeting new families is fun for all of us so thank you for being a part of our great school.

We had some wonderful things happening the past couple of months and a few of the highlights were:

  • PSSA Testing went so well! We are so proud of our students and the seriousness that they put into the testing environment. We always remind them that it is just one test so simply trying their hardest is all that we ask. They did a fantastic job!
  • We continued development of roles for students in a school-wide setting (Leader in Me), development of building WIGS – Wildly Important Goals. The three building goals we are working on for this year are: Reading Around the World Project, One Button TV Studio, and Student Leadership Roles. The staff continues monthly meetings to collaborate and determine a path to accomplishing our goals.
  • Our students are actively involved in reading month now. They are working on our "Reading Around the World" project with a goal of reading 100,000 minutes as a school. We are keeping track of our minutes read on the big map outside of the office. Also, to celebrate reading we have theme days such as cozy PJs reading day and Sports team dress day.
  • We hope that families and students enjoyed the Roller Skating Party in early April!
  • We are looking forward to our upcoming Leadership Week next week 5/16-5/20. PLEASE consider stopping in on Friday to visit our classrooms 12-2pm and/or see our student run Leola Proud Assembly 2-3:30. Bring other family members or a friend that would enjoy seeing all of the hard work the kids put in this year. We had over 100 visitors last year and we hope to beat that this year!

We appreciate all that you do as parents partnering with us in your children's education!

Community Read Aloud Experience

THANK YOU to students and families who participated in the Mr. Popper’s Penguins school community read-aloud experience. Students provided insightful responses to the discussion questions on the blog and participated enthusiastically in a penguin trivia contest. Many thanks go out to 6th graders Lexie Kauffman, Kayla Richardson, Luke Snader, and Mukhammed Karayev for presenting the contest questions.
