The Election Season

Pledge to Vote

Pledge to Vote cards have been distributed to your campuses this week and are due to Jessica Jolliffe by 9/23. The purpose of these cards is to allow those needing help with registering to vote, understanding information about issues, or the voting process to get help from a personalized voter navigator. Great resource for parents and for first time voters.

YouthCam - Student PSA Contest

This Public Service Announcement (PSA) video contest is for high school students and is designed to promote voter registration and voter turnout at the polls, especially among young voters, in Travis County. The contest is open until Sept. 21, 2016.

The contest theme is “Register. Be Counted. Vote!” and entrants must use the already developed logo (either the square or horizontal version) in their productions.

Prizes will be awarded on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on South Lamar where the winning entries will be shown on the big screen, beginning at noon.

First Vote 2016 Mock Presidential Election

Mock Presidential Election coming soon!

Before the election, students will register to be voters, receive faux voter registration cards, become members of the electoral college, be reporters covering the story, receive “I Voted” stickers and more. Due to Voter ID, students will be instructed they must bring their voter registration card to the polls to vote. Working together we can excite students about the civic process and energize them to look forward to the day they can really vote!

The Austin Independent School District has graciously volunteered to collect the results from all schools participating in the Mock Presidential Election. Each participating school will submit their results to AISD’s Central Counting Center, which will be operated by the school district, the University of Texas’ Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life and the Travis County Tax Office’s Voter Registration Division.

The First Vote! team can help guide your school faculty in how to set up and execute the Mock Presidential Election. Questions? Send them to:
