From the principal
Dear parents and care givers,
Thank you all for your support of the school yesterday. Closing the school was unexpected, and I’m sure you appreciate that it was not a decision made lightly. The care and safety of our students is our priority and we thank you for your understanding.
The sunshine today ensured we all resumed normal school business. Students were happy and learning in their classrooms.
We did manage to have most photos taken on Monday, with family photos postponed until a date to be confirmed. We will let parents and carers know as soon as this date has been decided.
Harmony day was lovely yesterday – even if for half a day! There was lots of orange throughout the school as well as some beautiful cultural dress.
A note went home today regarding COVID restrictions easing. For example, from Term 2 we are allowing parent volunteers in classrooms.
Please look out for a note from your child’s teacher as to what is requested of volunteers.
They will be distributed per class in the first week of Term 2. Please note, not all classes will request volunteers.
As we are very restricted for space, we cannot allow for social distancing for all families at one time.
We ask that parents follow the morning and afternoon routines we currently have in place in Term 2 until social distancing is no longer required. We will continue to seek appropriate solutions, particularly on wet weather days!
As Term 1 finishes on Thursday we are looking forward to our Hat parade. Please ensure you have read the note regarding the parade that came home last week and the updates in today’s newsletter.
We look forward to seeing you all in Term 2. Enjoy the holidays!
Best Wishes
Kelly Paton

Student Absences
Please be aware that our guidelines require that all students upon returning to school from any absence must have it explained through a note, an email or through Skoolbag. Children will be unable to attend class until this explanation is received. We have had a large volume of children returning to school from absences at the beginning of the term without explanations and it is impacting on their learning.
In addition, if a child presents at school with a COVID-19 symptom of any kind, no matter how mild, they will need to be collected from school. They will be unable to return until they receive a negative COVID-19 test result and they are no longer suffering symptoms. The negative test results need to be supplied to the office before your child can return to class. Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us keep our community safe.
All students are expected to be at school and ready to learn prior to 9:00am every day. This year we will be monitoring the students arriving late to school and will be working closely with families to improve this situation.
Please don't hesitate to contact me should you require further information.

Hat Parade Reminder
You are invited to watch the students from K-2 parade their hats at 12pm on Thursday 1st April 2021 in our COLA/Quad.
Please note, due to social distancing requirements and the space we have available, No more than two family members will be able to attend per child.
Please see the note sent home last week regarding our COVID 19 sign in protocols.
Please do not attempt to come on site if you are feeling unwell and/or are suffering from cold and flu-like symptoms as you will be unable to attend the parade.
All hats will be made at school with the assistance of a buddy class selected from years 3-6.
Classes really need some hat making resources sent in. Resources such as plain hats, feathers, plastic eggs, chicks and bunnies or other decorative items to assist in making of the hats would be greatly appreciated.
We look forward to sharing this occasion with you.

Stage 3's Networking with Narellan Police
Our Stage 3 students and staff would like to sincerely thank Constable Mark and Constable Melanie from Narellan Police Station for volunteering their valuable time on Tuesday, 16th March 2021.
Stage 3 engaged in a life skills presentation which focused on the importance of being
a safe digital citizen and showing respect for others.
Both Constable Mark and Constable Melanie discussed in detail how our actions can lead to positive or negative consequences, when using online applications and when interacting with others in face-to-face situations.
Stage 3 have made an excellent start to 2021 and I look forward to seeing each student continue to uphold our school’s behaviour expectations of being kind, fair, safe and great.
You asked thoughtful questions and listened attentively throughout the presentation.
Keep up the great work Years 5 & 6!
😊 Mrs Hawkins – Stage 3 Assistant Principal.
National RIDE2SCHOOL Day
Last Friday was National RIDE2SCHOOL Day where students were encouraged to safely ride, scooter or walk to school.
Although the weather wasn’t kind to us, there were still many children and families who took the opportunity to leave the car at home and enjoy a healthier alternative of coming to school.

Jump Rope For Heart Fundraising
This year Harrington Park P.S. is participating in Jump Rope for Heart – a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program by the Heart Foundation that has been running for over 36 years.
Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like ours have raised more than
$104 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work.
Jump Rope for Heart is a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs. This term, starting from Week 3, students at Harrington Park will be involved in weekly fitness and healthy lifestyle activities.
So far we have raised about $9,033.00
Our target is $10,000.00, we have 1 week left to reach this goal before the end of term 1.
So please donate.
To make fundraising fun and easy, you can create your own secure webpage at jumprope.org.au
Sign up to share your child’s progress and let the funds roll in. Your child can earn virtual badges along the way and your page will highlight the prizes up for grabs.
Sign up here today: www.jumprope.org.au/parents
At the end of this term, we will be having a ‘Jump Off’ day for the students to showcase their learned skills and to celebrate a healthy lifestyle.

First Aid
If a student is sent to the office with flu like symptoms we will call their parents to organise for them to be collected as soon as possible.
Your child should not attend school if they are showing any flu like symptoms.
Your support in keeping our school healthy and safe is appreciated.
Morning Duty of Care
Our teachers are on duty at school from 8:30am each morning. Unfortunately we have noticed a growing number of students arriving before this time in the mornings. These children are unsupervised. We urge all parents not to send their children to school before 8:30am. We realise that work commitments have an impact, however, should this be an issue for you please consider before school care providers such as Camp Australia.

Updating change of details
If you have had a change of details including emergency contacts & address changes, could you please inform the front office so that these details can be updated.
Residential Address Check
The prescribed 100-point residential address check will be used to verify local student status. See Appendix B
Does your child have a medical condition?
If your child has a medical condition, please inform the school.
If it is a condition that requires medication that has been prescribed by a doctor to be administered during the day by staff, please return the attached form to the front office along with the medication.
The medication needs to be provided to the school in the original box.
Prescribed medication must be for this student with the correct name and dosage noted on the container.
If the condition requires an Action Plan, these need to be acquired from your doctor.
All medical forms and Action Plans are available for download on our school website.
They can be found under the "Supporting our Students - Student Health & Safety" tab.
Dangerous Parking Issues
There have been many complaints and concerns raised regarding parents dropping children off in the entrance of the staff carpark. Then reversing out, narrowly missing children who are crossing the road.
This is a great concern and we please ask you to refrain from stopping here to let your children out, as it places other children in danger.
Thank you for your co-operation.
