GJM Family Connection
February 2022
Let Us Welcome February
Last week, GJM completed the great kindness across our campus and community. We had many students complete it. We will not be having Valentine's Day Parties as we are allowed only two days a school year of foods of miminmal nutritional value. You students may bring cards to exchange or goodie bags, but no food or drink.
We have field testing for STAAR next week. Each grade will be testing on a different day. Third grade will be on Tuesday, Fourth grade on Wednesday, and Fifth grade on Thursday. Please make sure your students get good rest the night before and eat a good breakfast.
We will also have our TELPAS Testing for our Emergent Bilingual students. This will see how these students are improving in their English skills for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Our bad weather make up day is February 21st please make sure to send your students to school on time as it is NO LONGER A HOLIDAY.
We also will be celebrating our school counselor in February. Thank you Mrs. Jimenez for all you do each and every day for all our students and staff.

The IISD Covid Plan remains in place. Please notify Nurse Handley at 776-1683 extension 3 if your child has any covid symptom.
We continue to have water bottle filling stations in each grade level hallway. Please be sure your student is bringing a bottle or container each day so they can stay hydrated.
February is National Heart Month and our daily Healthy Tips for this month includes information about the heart. Ask your child what they learned today from Nurse Handley's Healthy Tip on the announcements, every morning!

Cyber Safety Guide
Being online can take up a lot of free time, whether you’re a parent or a child. It’s easy to get caught up in playing online games, watching YouTube videos, and chatting with friends. But remember, there is a world outside of the Internet, so try to balance your child’s time between the two accordingly. Set screen time limits each day.
Social Media, What is the right age?
If your child wants to join a social media site, choose sites that are appropriate for their age. Many social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram have an age minimum of 13 years old. It’s a good idea to have access to your child’s accounts so you can supervise what they’re doing, such as adding new friends, receiving suspicious messages, or posting questionable content.
Monitoring your kids’ online activity.
The computer should be in a common area of your home. That way, you can keep an eye on your child, removing the temptation to visit websites or perform activities they are not allowed to do normally. Monitor your child’s post. Perform an unscheduled phone (or other device) check on all apps, etc. to keep your child safe.
Other helpful tips:
Periodically review your children’s list of instant messenger buddies.
Emphasize that computer privileges will not be taken away in the event of cyberbullying, which is one reason why children don’t alert their parents that they’re being bullied.
Set a “screen time curfew” for all electronics to be shut down.
Require your children to store their electronics in your/the parent’s or guardian’s room at night.
“Friend” your child on social media.
Monitor your child’s posts.
Establish “device free zones”.
