California Teacher of the Year 2022

CONGRATULATIONS to our very own math and engineering teacher, Tiffany Jokerst for being selected as California Teacher of the Year 2022! Announced on Friday by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, Tiffany is a great ambassador for education. We are so very proud of ALL of teachers and staff and Tiffany IS "the West Hills Way" through and through! Check out this piece from NBC San Diego or this Union Tribune article. Interesting fact...the Grossmont District had a finalist for State Teacher of the Year last year, Mr. Tweet, Social Science teacher from El Capitan HS, and now we have Mrs. Jokerst. We are the only school district in California to have had two back to back Finalists (and do not forget our very own Ms. Worley, State Teacher of the Year Finalist from four years ago!) GUHSD has GREAT teaching and learning!!

25 Most Remarkable Teens in San Diego

Congratulations to senior Jocorey Mitchell who has been selected as one of the 25 Most Remarkable Teens in San Diego in the category of Performance Art: Theatre. His award will be presented to him in front of family, friends, nominators and community leaders by City Council members Sean Elo-Rivera, Chris Cate, Marni von Wilpert and Raul Campillo and Board of Supervisor members Nora Vargas and Terra Lawson-Remer. Mayor Todd Gloria and Chair of the Board of Supervisors Nathan Fletcher will open the 25 Most Remarkable Teens award program with welcoming remarks on November 10 at the Shiley Special Events Suite at the Central Library. Special shout out to theatre teacher, Mrs. Nylund Lieb for nominating Jocorey. We are so proud of him and ALL of our theatre students!

We are looking forward to our Homecoming Football game (and Mayor's Cup) on Friday, Oct. 22 and our Homecoming dance on Saturday, Oct. 23!!

ASB is happy to announce our Candy Land theme!! Make sure to dress up this week and we hope to see you all at the dance on Oct. 23rd from 7-10 pm.

Here is information on the dance and if you would like to bring a Guest. The deadline to turn in a guest pass is October 19, 2021 @3:00PM. If your guest is a West Hills student, you do NOT need to complete the Guest Pass form.

Students on the LOP list received an e-mail on Friday along with their parent or guardian. You can also check your student and parent portal this week to see if you got the email. If you have any invoices, automated email reminders are being sent out weekly on Mondays. These emails include information about how to clear specific types of invoices. You may also view updated school account information anytime by logging into Destiny: bit.ly/whhs-destiny

Not sure where to get help? See the Assistant Principal's office to get pointed in the right direction.

Tickets continue to be on sale at the Finance office. After today (10/18/21), ticket prices are $35 for all tickets. Guests will pay the "NO ASB sticker" pricing. Loss of Privilege Policy

Loss of Privilege (LOP) List: This exists to support the idea that our primary function is “Academics First” and that student behaviors and choices need to prioritize attendance and following school rules. Students may earn their way off of the LOP list through attendance at detention and / or Saturday school after talking with their Assistant Principal. They can also lose a privilege that was granted (i.e. serving Saturday School to be eligible to purchase a Homecoming Dance Ticket, but then repeat actions (or new actions) that put them back on LOP so that attending Homecoming Dance is no longer available to them and a dance ticket refund is issued).

See our Loss of Privilege Policy HERE.

Air Force ROTC Program

Hey Pack! Come to the pit at lunch today to learn more about the U.S. Air Force ROTC program. All college visits are open to any student at West Hills!
