Bynagle Bulletin
For the week of November 4-8, 2013
Turtles
It is time for us to say Good-Bye to our beloved classroom pets. If your family would like to take on these two hilarious pets, please step forward and take them! They aren't noisy and come with a supply of food.
Writing
With Halloween behind us, we can resume dedicated focus to the important undertaking of developing our intellectual apparatus. This week we will begin a unit on the Western Expansion and will be learning to write summaries and informative essays based on readings about this historical time.
One Amazing Class!
Hatchet & Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe
We are studying 'theme' with the sixth graders. The 'theme' of the book Hatchet is perseverance. The protagonist of the story perseveres against all odds. We are training ourselves to look for the repetition of events in the story to help us see the theme.
Last week students in the 5th grade learned about 'personification' through my new favorite book 'This is Not My Hat'. We are applying that knowledge in the reading of The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe as C.S. Lewis uses this technique flawlessly to bring his mythical world to life. The second literary technique we are focusing on this week is 'imagery'. How do we know that the Witch is mean and evil from the look of her castle? This week, we will find out!
