Mythbusters
Don't pay attention to these common myths below! If you hear them around campus, keep these truths in mind. Don't be scared by any crazy rumors you hear -- they're circulated by misinformation and they're false!
- It doesn't matter when I register for recruitment. Nuuu, please no! It really matters. We're kickstarting our Gamma Chi program this week, and you don't want to miss out on any meetings (you MUST be registered to get a GX).
- If a girl tells me something "secret" about the recruitment process, it's likely true. No, no, nope. If a younger active member tells you something about "inner workings" of the recruitment process, just ignore it. She's just as new to recruitment as you are, and every chapter does it differently, so it doesn't matter anyway.
- If a sorority woman sees me while I'm out on [going out sort of] night, that will hurt/help my recruitment chances. First, let's stop referring to it as recruitment "chances". It's not a race or competition or trial. Second, you aren't 21, you should't be going out. Third, recognizing that you won't listen to me on that one, if you do choose to go out and if a sorority women sees you, don't think anything of it. Don't run up to her expecting to start talking about recruitment -- she's there to have fun just like you, not stalk PNM's. That's weird. On the other hand, don't freak out and run away. It's just a coincidence, nothing bad is going to happen.
- If I'm missing a part of recruitment for a legit absence, it won't affect my recruitment process. I hate to say this, but that's not true! Even if you're missing a recruitment round for a legit reason, it won't guarantee anything. If you miss, chapters don't have to invite you back at all. That being said, we do have a formal absence application here (more details below), and we will tell the chapters if your absence is excused or not. If it is, you'll more likely be invited back; if you're unexcused (you just felt like missing, you had the "sniffles", it's grounds to be released from the process immediately). Not to scare you!
Gamma Chi Program: This Week!
See our first newsletter here for a full description of the GX program.
You'll only be assigned a Gamma Chi group AFTER you register online for recruitment, so do this ASAP! If you've already registered (yay), you'll be assigned a GX group this week!!!! You'll be contacted directly by your Gamma Chi about when you'll first be meeting.
Common question: I've registered & haven't heard from my Gamma Chi group (by the end of this week).
Answer: you haven't paid for registration or your payment hasn't gone through. Contact Lauren Brooks to get this problem solved so you can start meeting with your group.
Absence Policy During Recruitment
- It is due by November 7th by midnight for PPD absences. Note: PPD is 100% MANDATORY for all PNM's. It is just as required as Formal Recruitment Rounds. If you miss PPD without an excused absence verified by Panhellenic, this will be recorded & may negatively impact your recruitment process.
- It is due December 15th by midnight for Formal Recruitment absences.
- Your application will be reviewed and you will notified if your absence(s) is(are) excused by the Nov 11th for PPD absences & by the Pre-recruitment meeting January 8th for Formal Recruitment Absences.
- How seriously do we take attendance during PPD & Formal Recruitment Rounds? Panhellenic closely monitors which rounds PNM's go to throughout the day during both PPD & recruitment in January. So, you cannot secretively miss one round -- it will be recorded, and you will have to report to Panhellenic to discuss your absence.
- What will happen if I am considered excused? Panhellenic will tell the chapters that you are formally excused, so they will have the option to offer you a courtesy invitation or not. Being excused is not a guarantee; however, it significantly heightens the likelihood of getting invited back to the next round. If you don't show up, no one has to invite you back.
- What will happen if I am considered unexcused? If you are considered unexcused and miss anyway, it is grounds for release from the recruitment process.
