Red Storm Forecast
Stonybrook Middle School January 2019
Message from Mr. Day
Hello Stonybrook Middle School Families!
I hope this version of the Red Storm Forecast finds you having a healthy and rested start to the beginning of the new year! With the many demands of the holidays, the two week break can seem to move faster than other breaks!
As students prepare for and settle back into the daily routine of being an SMS scholar, I want to share some general reminders that will help support their readiness for each day and to maintain model attendance. Our goal for every student this year is to achieve 96% or better attendance as this data point has proven out to be a critical indicator that impacts student academic achievement. Currently we have about 60% of our students at this goal, but with a focus on great attendance for semester 2, many more students can still achieve this!
Please ensure that you continue to support your child's education by teaching them healthy behaviors that include personal hygiene that fights illness, ample uninterrupted sleep, hydration, healthy food choices, minimize screen time and social media use, and providing them a quiet, structured area to do their studies. Reading on a daily basis is also critical to their development as well as having your child be an active part of their school beyond the standard day.
Children this age also benefit from having a documented daily routine that helps keep them focused and balanced to ensure they have time to be a child and time to focus on their educational growth by including weekly or biweekly goals for them to obtain.
We look forward to a successful start of the semester!
Go Red Storm!
Mr. Nathan Day
