Dear neighbors and friends,
Thank you to all who took part in our annual Easter egg hunt. The weather was perfect, the students were thrilled to have so many little ones on campus and it looked like a fun time for all!
The spring issue of Hood Magazine has arrived! If you haven't seen it yet, you can pick one up in the magazine racks around campus or read it online.
Campus is bustling with end-of-the year events and commencement planning. It's hard to believe that we are almost through another academic year.
I hope you have been able to enjoy the cherry blossoms that have literally exploded in the past few weeks. The wisteria blooms in the pergola are just around the corner.
Best,
Andrea E. Chapdelaine
President

The Center was founded with the broad goal to support community organizations by unlocking the potential of their data in a way that leverages the diverse skillset of our faculty, doctoral students and data scientists in training. DDF will enrich our curriculum with meaningful, real-world data projects. Part of the vision for DDF is to develop community-wide dashboards and the underlying data pipelines that community agencies can use to directly support their data needs.

Lecture: Your Zip Code Shouldn't Determine Your Health

Dr. Jerome Adams
The 20th Surgeon General of the United States
Presidential Fellow, Executive Director of Purdue's Health Equity Initiatives, and Distinguished Professor of Practice at Purdue University
COVID-19 created a perfect storm that preyed upon our nation’s most vulnerable communities: people of color, rural populations, and those already suffering from epidemics of obesity, asthma, substance-use disorder, smoking, and conditions such as poor maternal health that are prevalent in low-income zip codes. COVID has cast a spotlight on a long history of systemic health inequities in America. Today, these disparities still remain. But according to Dr. Adams, there is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to right the wrongs of the past. Dr. Adams sees an opportunity in a post-COVID world to talk about the social determinants of health and health equity in a way that truly resonates with the public, moves from awareness to action, and drives real and lasting change.
