Week of October 3, 2022
“When you connect to the heart of a child, everything is possible.”
Dr. Karyn Purvis
Lunch bunches are starting soon in mid-October. If you are interested in your child participating in a lunch bunch and would like more information, click here.
If you haven’t already, please take a minute or two to complete this Back to School form for Mrs. K. The information you provide is invaluable to me.
Every grade level has visited the Peace classroom! We learned about friendship, sharing, and kindness. After our lesson, students in grades PK-2nd had the opportunity to PLAY at stations: Lego’s, blocks, kindness fun, and play-doh. One of my favorite quotes from Mr. Rogers is “Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.”
4th and 5th graders will visit the Peace class in the next two weeks and we will begin to explore the meaning of empathy-the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. According to years of research, teaching children how to have empathy for one another is one of the most effective ways to prevent bullying.

Attendance Policy
Dear Parent / Legal Guardian:
Our district’s goal is that all students will be successful. One of the most important factors that contribute to a student’s academic success is their attendance in class on a daily basis. As a partner in your child’s success, Burleson Independent School District wants to encourage you to make school attendance a top priority for your child.
Texas Education Code states that it is the parents’ duty to monitor and require their child to
attend school (TEC 25.093). The Code further states that if a student is absent 10 or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same year or on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period may be considered excessive. The following is an example of what is subject to happen if your child has excessive absences:
(1) The student’s parent is subject to prosecution under Section 25.093, Texas Education
Code; and
(2) The student is subject to referral to a truancy court for truant conduct under Section
65.003(a), Family Code.
Please make every effort to see that your child is in school and that you have notified us of
his/her absence (i.e. calling the school on the day of the absence with the reason for the absence) or that your student has returned with the appropriate excuse documentation (i.e. note from a doctor, dentist, therapist, or court representative including student’s name, date of absence(s) and professional’s signature, or funeral documentation). According to Burleson ISD School Board Policy FEC (Local), if your child is absent for 3 or more consecutive days a doctor’s note will be required.
Burleson Independent School District appreciates the opportunity to work in partnership with
parents in our goal to ensure student success in all their endeavors. Please contact us if you have any questions concerning attendance issues.
