Welcome to the Doghouse
TCHS Presents: Bulldog Business
Volume #4
Principal's Note:
Greetings Tri-Cities families,
It is hard to believe that it is Mid-September. Our fall sports are in full swing and we hope to see you at a game in the near future. Our team is working hard to realize the following student achievement outcomes as outlined in our Strategic Plan:
- 87% of 9th grade students will earn the course credits they need to be on-track for graduation, earning 5 credits and completing Algebra I by the end of the 9th grade.
- 65% of 10th grade students will meet the benchmark for college readiness on the PSAT in both Math and Evidence-based Reading and Writing.
- Increase performance in all Milestones tested subjects by a minimum of 5 percentage points.
Achieving these goals requires collaboration between the school and home. We need parents to ensure students arrive to school on time with a positive attitude. While this may seem simple, these small actions create the conditions necessary to improve student achievement.
Take a look at theses three sample transcripts below:
Student 1 Student 2 Student 3
Student 1’s transcript indicates he’s focused on academics and is not only college bound, but is eager to obtain free college scholarship money. The transcript shows high A's and B's in all courses, honors classes, and a high grade point average. Student one has demonstrated that he can consistently pass classes and earn credit toward graduation.
Student 2 passed all courses this semester but has earned 70's in some cases. She is only meeting the minimum standards but has the potential to achieve so much more.
Student 3 is in distress and is in jeopardy of not graduating on time. While the student earned credit in four courses, he also failed four classes and is off track for graduation. Credit recovery and summer school are required for this student to graduate.
Take the time to discuss these sample transcripts with your students. Encourage them to do their best in every class, every day. Our goal is to graduate 100% of our students each year while helping them achieve their maximum potential. We can achieve this mission together. I hope to see you at our next Parent- Teacher Conference; Tuesday, September 25th from 3:45 pm until 5:00 pm.

New Calendar Reminders...Looking Ahead
Parents, we will have our first of four Flexible Release days, on Monday, September 17, 2018. What is a Flexible Release day? This is a day that our school uses to improve professional learning and development opportunities for our teachers and staff. During these days, students will NOT be at school. Students will however, have work assignments. These days are NOT posted on the Fulton County calendars.
County wide... November 6, 2018 has been changed from a regular school day, to a teacher work day. March 8, 2019 has been changed from a teacher work day, to a regular school day.
The decision alleviates safety concerns raised by some parents and staff, allows for additional staff training on safety protocols, and maintains instructional time for our students.

One Final Message...
Greetings Fulton County Schools’ Families,
Our new school year is off to a great start and we look forward to a successful 2018-2019 school year!
You might recall that you were sent a communication during the first week of August that contained a link to the 2018-2019 handbook as well as instructions on how to electronically sign the Acknowledgement of Receipt. We have recently learned that the handbook referenced was an incomplete version. As a result, please see the below link for the completed version of our Student Code of Conduct Handbook, a version that contains some additional content.
You do not need to provide another electronic signature and acknowledgement of receipt if you have already done so but if you haven’t completed this step, we ask that you do so at this time by following the directions and links below.
The electronic signature and acknowledgment of receipt process involves you completing two simple steps 1) Review the Student Code of Conduct and 2) Completing and submitting the Acknowledgement of Electronic Receipt. Here is how you complete these two steps:
- Please review and save the 2018-2019 Student Code of Conduct & Discipline Handbook at: http://www.fultonschools.org/en/divisions/acd/supportserv/Pages/StudentDiscipline.aspx
- Please click the link below to review and submit the required Acknowledgement of Electronic Receipt Form. After review of the Acknowledgement of Electronic Receipt, please complete the electronic form and submit it.
- English Handbook: https://www3.fultonschools.org/codeconduct
- Spanish Handbook: https://www3.fultonschools.org/codeconduct/home/indexspa
It is important that you review and discuss the content in the 2018-2019 Student Code of Conduct with your child(ren). Teachers also reviewed the Code of Conduct with students at the beginning of the school year. While we encourage you to acknowledge receipt electronically, you may obtain a hardcopy of the Receipt form and the Student Code of Conduct from either your school or by contacting our office.
We wish all of you and your students an amazing 2018-2019 school year!
Thank you,
The Office of Student Discipline and Prevention
