Hello Bobcats!
This year is flying by. I hope that each and every one of our Bobcat families has a restful and safe Thanksgiving break. We are encouraging all of our students to take home their devices on the 20th. Students will not be assigned any work over the break, but they can take the opportunity to catch up on some missing assignments they may have. The grading expectations have changed the second 9-weeks and students do not have until the end of the 9-weeks to complete missing work. Parents, I encourage you to look in the Parent Self Serve ( Parent Self Serve link) and have students work on any missing assignments. Our students and teachers have been working very hard these last 11 weeks. I hope that everyone enjoys this break and comes back on the 30th ready to work hard for 3 weeks until Christmas.
Living The Dream,
Mr. Loyd

TOYS FOR TOTS
Barton Middle School is participating in the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.
Since 1947, the Marine Corps Reserve have been making Christmas wishes come true for needy children. Toys for Tots embodies the true spirit of Christmas, and the gift of a new toy to a needy girl or boy means that someone cares and Christmas hasn’t passed them by.
The Barton family is asking for your help to send the needy children of our area a message of hope this Christmas through the gift of a new, unwrapped toy.
Barton is a Toys for Tots drop-off location. A collection box is located inside the vestibule of the main school office entrance.

National Spelling Bee
Thanks to all Bobcats who have already joined the Schoology Spelling Bee Group to learn about this year’s BMS Spelling Bee. It isn’t too late if you are still interested – just email Barbara.holland@hayscisd.net with the student names and Mrs. Holland can add them through Schoology. In order to participate in the actual Spelling Bees, students must also be registered in Scripp’s new Online Testing platform! Go to https://online-test.spellingbee.com/student-register and search for Barton by using our zip code 78610.

Wednesday Study Group
On Wednesdays, Barton will be offering an after school Study time for students to get caught up on work. This is voluntary and can be for virtual students (that are willing to come to the school during this study time), as well as In Person students.
The time will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria and each student can leave at any time to go home. We have a late bus that will be able to take students home as well at 5:15.
Each student needs to make sure that they have their device.

A note about tardies:
We are beginning to see a rise in tardies. Please note that students are tardy after 8:05AM. The 1st-4th tardies are warnings, and on the 4th tardy the ladies in the front office remind students that the next tardy will result in a lunch detention. The 5th tardy, and every tardy after, will result in a lunch detention. Should a student reach a 10th tardy, an afterschool detention will be issued, and should the student continue to be tardy, more afterschool detentions will be issued as the student now must make-up time missed to the first class s/he attends each day; please note that being signed-out repeatedly will result in a student having to make-up time as well. Tardies do not “reset” at the semester. “Make-up” time requirements are necessary for compliance with Texas Education Code 25.085 and House Bill 2610.
Tardies and/or sign-outs that are due to doctor, dental, and/or other health care providers are excused when a note is provided within 5 days of the tardy or sign-out.

Hays CISD Resources
The Hays CISD Clothes Closet has opened back up to serve families. Due to COVID-19, we are now requesting families fill out this Google form and we will do the shopping to fulfill the request. The form includes designated dates/times that families can select for contactless pick up. They will receive a call/email confirming with additional details. If they need clothes and food and are able to pickup, this is the form to fill out.
Our HaysHope2Go program has been fully operational and serving families weekly since March. We have a limited amount of personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, formula and diapers. If a family is currently on our HaysHope2Go list, we can drop off the clothing with their food delivery. Since March, we have served 678 families, 3,563 people with 45,855 meals. If you know of a family who does not have transportation (needs food only) and can benefit from delivery, please fill out this form:
