Cougar Courier

Greetings from Dr. Garcia!

October 2, 2021

Happy October and welcome to fall! We are a little over two weeks from the end of quarter 1 and Parent Teacher Conferences will be approaching quickly. Please mark your calendars for October 21st. Conferences will be from 5:00-7:30 pm.

We are excited to share the first episode of "It's a Great Day at Clay" in this week's newsletter. The show is a scholar and staff collaboration that is filmed and edited by the Cougar Cast. Mr. Gish, our Digital Integration Specialist, is the producer of the program. We love the opportunity for scholars to be anchors, to write scripts, to act and to communicate with others. All of the shows this year are being filmed with a brand new camera that was paid for through grant funding by The South Bend Education Foundation. We hope you enjoy the show!

Have you completed your application for free and reduced lunch/textbook assistance? This must be completed every year. Here is the link https://family.titank12.com. We are one of the few states that charge families textbook fees, and this is an opportunity to reduce those fees for qualifying families.

While we embed all of the learner attributes in our daily instruction, each month we continue to highlight one with scholars. This month's attribute is principled. Principled scholars act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. They take responsibility for our actions and their consequences.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,

Dr. Garcia

It's a Great Day at Clay!

School Office Reminders

The school office opens at 8:30 and closes at 5:00 pm. Please remember to send excuse notes for scholars when they miss school. We also need to be notified if a child's transportation (car rider or bus rider) is changing.

Sports Physicals

Sports Physicals are being hosted at Clay International Academy.

This is a great opportunity we have that is being offered for our scholars.

Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader that will be participating in a sport during the rest of the school year and has not already had a sports physical must have a physical conducted by a physician.

Physicals will be held on October 6th, 2021 at 2pm.

The cost is $20 cash.

Physicals will be held during the school day at Clay International Academy. Scholars getting a physical must have the parent/student sections on the IHSAA physical form completed.

Complete the parent/student information portion of the physical form and return it to Tracy Matlock before October 4th to reserve your appointment.

Help Needed!

We are currently in need of three lunch aides and three paraprofessional positions. If you, or anyone you know, are interested, please go to https://sb.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx and apply today!

We are also in need of 20 men to serve as mentors to some of our male scholars in grades 5-8. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please email Dr. Garcia at ngarcia@sbcsc.k12.in.us

Dress Code Reminder

I want to take a moment and remind parents that we have a dress code. Spandex shorts are not allowed. CIA shirts can be worn any day and pant colors are black, blue and khaki. Scholars should not be wearing sweatpants to school. We appreciate your help with making sure scholars adhere to the dress code.

We are in need of uniform clothes for our Cougar Closet, particularly for our older scholars. If you have any clothes you would like to donate, please bring them to the main office. Thank you!
