SCSD honors community veterans

Whether it was student assemblies or drive-by parades, schools across SCSD celebrated and honored our community's veterans on Thursday, Nov. 11. These brave Americans put their lives on the line to ensure the freedoms and comforts we readily accept and, for that, we are truly grateful. Thank you so much for your service to our country.

SCHS FCCLA food drive a huge success

SCHS FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America) just recently held a fundraiser within the building that raised money to purchase turkeys for The No Hunger Holiday organization. The organization provides Thanksgiving meal kits for families in need.

This year, as a building, we raised almost $1700. We were able to buy 40 turkeys and give a large monetary donation. We have participated in the fundraiser for almost 10 years and this is the most we have ever donated!

Null Girls on the Run work for health, community

Girls on the Run is back on the move! This past Saturday, Null Girls on the Run participated in the Girls on the Run 5K. The girls worked hard all season to prepare for their final goal. It was a cold and windy day in Forest Park but all the girls made it around the course. 4th grader McKenna Eagan placed 3rd in her age group, finishing with a time of 26 minutes and 12 seconds.

Girls on the Run is so much more than running. The girls participate in social-emotional learning to help them tackle everyday life, along with a service project to help others. This year the girls collected items for 5 Acres Animal Shelter. Thanks to their coaches, Deidre Bauer, Melinda Simms, Gita Gohil and Erin Martin these girls have not only become better runners but better leaders.

Blackhurst STEM Night

Blackhurst Elementary hosted a Family STEM Night on November 10 that had almost 300 attendees. Students and their families participated in STEM challenges and viewed creations and demonstrations from Blackhurst's LEGO team.

First Assembly Church in St. Charles donated apples with caramel and other snacks for families to enjoy at the event. They also provided the event with a photo booth and balloon artist. The successful event included the Scholastic Book Fair hosted by Blackhurst's Librarian, Krista Jurgensmeier.

Blackhurst wants to thank all the volunteers and families who helped with and attended the event!
