Cardinal Closet
The Trantwood PTA would like to introduce you to
The Cardinal Closet!
The PTA will now be collecting gently used Trantwood Spirit Wear to donate to families in need at our school!
If your little cardinal has grown into a big cardinal or your child is moving onto middle school and you would like to donate any Trantwood clothing that is too small for your child or no longer needed, please drop off any items to the bin labeled The Cardinal Closet on the stage in the cafeteria.
Please contact Krista Booth at kristabooth80@gmail.com with any questions
Learning Targets and the Teacher Evaluation
So we couldn't help but notice the tremendous work everyone is doing to post their whole group and small group learning targets. The great news is that this directly supports three areas of the Teacher Evaluation:
- Standard 1: Professional Knowledge competency 3
- Standard 2: Instructional Planning competencies 2 and 3
- Standard 3: Instructional Delivery competency 1
This is what I call a true win - win! One "win" for the students and another "win" for the teacher. #awesomesauce!
Blood Drive Volunteers Needed!
Please use the link below to volunteer for our first (annual?) blood drive.
Joy Fair
As outlined in Compass to 2020, Goal 4 includes a focus on improving working conditions and fostering a culture of respect among all staff. To support this effort, the Office of Professional Growth and Innovation is sponsoring a Joy Fair on Feb. 22 from 5-7 p.m. at College Park Elementary School. This event is an opportunity for all staff to learn strategies focused on transforming classroom environments and school cultures by maximizing joy and motivation for both staff and students. Attendees will have the opportunity to browse interactive learning stations that will be hosted by Joy Ambassadors, staff who have committed to leading and supporting joy within their classrooms and schools. Please see the flyer I emailed to you on Thursday for details and RSVP information.
If there are questions regarding the fair, please contact Akilah Ellison, professional learning specialist, at 263-6972 or Akilah.Ellison@vbschools.com. Thank you for sharing this information with your staff.
PLP Update
An update on the number of PLP points earned will be placed in your box soon. As a reminder, the PLP requirement must be completed by April 30. Points may be earned at both the site and division levels. It is critical that teachers use Frontline Professional Growth to monitor your progress in completing the requirement. As a reminder, all staff with a PLP requirement, including part-time staff, must complete the four site-based mandatory hours. Staff members who fail to complete the required number of professional learning points may receive a negative pay adjustment and a lesser rating for Standard 6, Professionalism, of the Teacher Evaluation System.
Digital Learning Day is Feb. 23, 2017
The Virginia Department of Education is encouraging all schools to participate in Digital Learning Day, Feb. 23. This event is designed to celebrate digital learning in addition to transformational teaching and learning practices. This is also a perfect time to revisit internet safety and digital citizenship. Visit Digital Learning Day to learn more about this event and Virginia Department of Education for other technology initiatives. Internet safety and digital citizenship resources have been curated by Instructional Technology Specialists to share at each school. Technology is being integrated in so many wonderful ways at Trantwood, I also encourage classes to invite parents in for a visit on this day so they can see the plethora of digital tools being used in our classrooms to inspire and engage our learners.
An Attitude of Gratitude Rocks!
~ Three cheers for all 2nd grade teachers inviting community members and parents to share about how weather impacts their work - students were so excited! Teri Hawley
~Just have to say Megan is the “best”. She was great last year and great today! The school was very welcoming, helpful and the children bright and engaged! Thank you for helping us bring this program to the children! Terri S. Belkov, Agriculture Educator, Virginia Beach Farmers Market
~Ok, I can’t let this slip by. Those Wixie responses to the aquarium visit (by students from Mrs. Schatti's class) were adorable and I would love to share these as Wixie exemplars. Lindie Kolk Editor, Creative Educator Director of Professional Learning, Tech4Learning
~A BIG kudos to Leanne Bolin (and her Sadie lady), Pam Jacobs, Mrs. Metzger, Mrs. Moore, Ms. Haebler, and Vivi for staying after to cheer on follow cardinals during Wednesday’s volleyball game! Thank you for all your support and hope to see more cardinal supporters at our next home game! Elise Neubeck
~ Kudos to Lisa Lee & Macy Henry. An article about the digital citizenship lesson at Trantwood will appear in the next issue of Slice, the division’s new digital newsletter. The article will be published on The Core Monday morning and linked to the newsletter that is distributed to all VBCPS employees and families. So it will definitely be available to a big audience! Dept. of Media & Communications
~ Many thanks to everyone for your support and understanding as we continue to work to extinguish inappropriate behaviors. A special thanks to Mrs. Flynn, Hilly, Kurzee, Mr. Ellis, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Lee, Mr. Cassidy, and Mrs. Francis their timely assistance, patience, and devotion to our learners. This would not be possible without you. LAM
