Sierra Family Newsletter January 29, 2021
Message from the Principal
Dear Sierra Families,
I can't believe it's almost time to turn the page on the first month of 2021. It's been a great month of learning and growing at Sierra!
As an International Baccalaureate School, we are always excited to expand our international mindedness, and pivot to February's IB Learner Profile Attribute: CARING! This is a perfect compliment to another important feature of February: Black History Month.
In celebration of Black History Month we’re sharing one neat resource you might enjoy with your child, from a curation by RUSD’s District Librarian, Kelly Stephan, each week with families.
Here’s our first share: Video of author, Kwame Alexander, reading the book, The Undefeated, aloud.
Click here for more information about the Black History Month theme for 2021, The Black Family.
Finally, Sierra will be creating a Site Equity and Inclusion Team this spring, to consist of staff and 1-2 parents. The Site Equity and Inclusion Team will attend three full-day trainings on April 28, May 6, and May 20, hosted by RUSD (all RUSD schools participate in these trainings, and Sierra will be in a training cohort with Twin Oaks, Rocklin, and Ruhkala Elementary Schools). If you are able to attend those training dates and interested in partnering with us as we learn more and deepen our focus on becoming more equitable and inclusive, please email me.
Warmly,
Amy Westberg
