A Message From Our District Security Officer
Hello Manville Community,
The Manville School District and the Manville Police would like your assistance in preventing any tragic accidents. We have recently been made aware of unsafe behavior at the train tracks in the area between N 13th Ave/Manville VFW and North Street /South St. It has been reported that when the train is stopped there, students have been seen climbing through the train, crawling under it, and using other means to go past it. If your child crosses that path, please speak with them about appropriate and safe behavior. Crossing only at the designated crossing at N 13th Ave, only when the tracks are clear in all directions.
The only safe place to cross tracks is at designated public crossings with a crosswalk, flashing red lights or a gate. Crossing anywhere else is illegal.
We are currently partnering with the Manville Police Department, Norfolk Southern and Operation Lifesaver Rail Safety Education (https://oli.org/) to educate our students and community and we will be providing further educational information for our students through assemblies in the near future.
Thank you for your cooperation and be safe!
Donald A. Johnstone
