Alas, it is starting to feel like Fall. We have some significant events on the horizon at YCIS. Please take note of these important dates and activities.
Next week is Spirit Week at YCIS (see flyer below). This will be a grade level competition with the winning grade level receiving an ice cream party. The purpose of Spirit Week is to build unity and culture in our building. Please make sure all dress ups are school appropriate and follow the dress code in the student handbook. The following Monday is Halloween and students are encouraged to wear their costumes on that day. Again, costumes must be school appropriate with no weapons or excessive gore and cannot cause a disruption in class. Students have a difficult time sitting at a desk with a blow up costume. Also, no clown costumes as I am a coulrophobic.
Our first 7th/8th grade dance will be afterschool on Thursday 10/27. This is a Hawaiian themed dance (again school appropriate please). This dance is only available for 7th/8th grade students who do not have more than 6 tardies, reinforcing the expectation of getting to class on time. The dance will go from 3:30-5:00 with free admission and food and drink available for purchase.
Make a note that picture retakes will be next Wednesday 9/26. Retake forms were sent home with students in their homerooms.
Oregon Battle of the Book permission slips have been handed out and are due today. The first OBOB practice is next Thursday. For more information please contact our librarian Mrs. Peterson at petersonk@ycschools.org
Our first progress reports will be sent home the week of 11/7. We are aware that the grades being posted on Parenvue for 4th-6th parents are not accurate. We have been in contact with Synergy this week and will get this resolved ASAP. Until then please contact your student's teacher should you have questions about the progress they are making in class.
And don't forget in the not too distant future we have Parent/Teacher conferences on November 21-22. More information to come as we get closer.
This weekend is shaping up like an optimal time for pumpkin patches, apple cider and football. Enjoy.
Sincerely,
Matt Wiles
