From the Principal
This week at Monroe Elementary, our second grade students took the CoGat test. CoGat testing is an aptitude test that assess verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative reasoning. The second grade teachers divide the test sections into multiple days so that students aren't testing too long.
Our third grade students had their music performance this week. It was great to have a music performance again. Thank you to all of the parents and family members that attended. The third grade students did a great job. Also thank you to our music teacher, Mr. Tarbet. He worked so hard getting everything ready for the performance. Thank you to Mrs. McCray and Mrs. Newman for all of their support in helping to get students prepared.
Have a great weekend!

Teacher Spotlight-Mrs. Hipp
What is your name and your position at Monroe Elementary?
Laura Hipp, Math Intervention
What's one thing you couldn't live without?
Flowers! The various shapes, sizes, and colors amaze me and bring me joy! I love to work in my garden and see new beauties every day!
What is your FAVORITE thing to do?
My favorite thing to do is just sit on the beach, listen to the waves and relax with a good book.
Where is the best place you've traveled to?
The Finger Lakes Region in New York is one of my favorite places. The scenery is beautiful and there are lots of fun things to do.
Who is your biggest inspiration? Why?
My dad is my biggest inspiration. He is kind, smart, funny and innovative! He has been a hard worker from the time he was a child growing up on a farm. He worked very hard to support our family, but always took time to help me with schoolwork if I needed it, especially math! He is the reason I love math so much!! He taught me to think about numbers and mathematical ideas in flexible ways. He showed me the importance of spending time with my own children to help them with schoolwork and teach them the importance of education. Even in his retirement, he continues to work hard every day and do things to stretch his brain. He inspires me with his work ethic and his pursuit of excellence in all that he does.
What is the best book you've ever read?
Something from Nothing by Pheobe Gilman
What is your favorite thing about working at Monroe Elementary School?
I love the smallness of Monroe! We are able to truly know every child. I think I know the names of almost ALL of our amazing Monroe students!
Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
I have spent my entire teaching career at Monroe Elementary. That's almost 28 years of loving and teaching Monroe students!!
