Congratulations to the "Sound of the Wildcats" on a fine performance at the first regular season football game of the fall. It's great to be able to get through a football game at this time of the year without having to dodge weather and be stuck on school buses. Let's hope the weather continues to be kind to us throughout the remainder of the marching band portion of the year!


Many of you have already turned your attention to this, so just another reminder that this Wednesday, 8/28, is the due date for orders on Concert Uniform Accessories. All Band students must have all parts of the concert uniform for each concert performance. This year, our first concert performance is on Thursday, October 3 with our Fall Band Concert. Below are reminders of what is provided by the Band program, and what is the responsibility of the students to provide.

**All items listed under "Provided by the Student/Student's Family" do not have to be purchased through the Band program. If you choose to shop around and find a better price, please feel free to purchase those items on your own. Please be sure that the items will be in before the week on September 29 so your student is prepared for our Fall Band Concert on October 3.**


As you've seen in communication from the school, Open Houses for both campuses have been scheduled during the week of Homecoming and our Fall Band Concert due to the school not being able to reschedule to a different week. Because of that, the 9th Grade Center Open House falls on the same night as our Fall Band Concert. Parents with 9th grade students - it is unfortunate that this event was scheduled over our concert, but we have worked with the administration to come up with the best solution possible with the situation the school given. I encourage you to make other arrangements with your student's teachers at the 9th Grade Center to receive information that will be given out at Open House.

BAND BOOSTER PRESIDENT MESSAGE




Please see the information below about Program Ads/ Sponsorships—it is a great way to support the band program and earn funds for your student’s band account.


The Band Program is distributed, free of charge, at all concerts during the school year. In addition to pictures of the Band and information about its members, the Program contains advertisements from local businesses and parents. The sale of these ads is a great way for your student to raise money that will defray your financial obligations to the Band. The student's Band Account will be credited with 50% - 60% of the ad revenues that he/she sells, depending on the Band's printing cost. Deadline to submit all forms, ads and payments - Friday, September 6.


"DO NOT CALL LIST"-Advertisers who have been solicited in past years by current band students are on this list. Due to existing relationships with a specific student, these companies should not be contacted by another student or parent.

Thank you to all of our wonderful OPS volunteers and chaperones for helping to make the first home game of the year go so smoothly. To volunteer for upcoming games, please look at the “calendar” section on the band home page under “quick links” (code/password is winterparkhsband). Click on the hand, and you will see volunteer slots. We need many more volunteers for each game, so please look at the dates and sign up for the ones that work for you. You must be additions approved. Stay tuned for information about signing up for Additions “opportunities.”


Middle School night (where 8th grade band students from the feeder middle schools come to play in the stands with our band-a great event) is coming soon (9/13), and we will need extra volunteers to make that night go smoothly. If you do not have a senior this year, also please consider volunteering for senior night (Thursday, 10/17), so the senior parents can enjoy the evening with their families/students. We have a break next week with no game, so we look forward to seeing everyone for the away game on 9/6.


Homecoming will be here before you know it, too, and we will need volunteers for the game and for the parade on Wednesday of that week. In connection with Homecoming, there will be an 80th Anniversary Concert that week. T-shirts commemorating the WPHS Band’s 80thAnniversary (WOW!) are available through the Winter Park High School Band Alumni Association (which raises funds to benefit the band). UNIFORM IRONING HELP NEEDED!

We are looking for volunteers to press all the uniforms that have been fitted and assigned. Please bring your ironing boards and irons to the 600 building hallway (band room hallway) during the marching camp hours from Monday through Friday.
