Safe Routes to School
November-December 2021
Parents, Thank You for Driving Safely in the School Zone!
Pedestrian & Bike Safety Tips
Even though drivers that are turning at intersections are required to yield to walkers and bicyclists, be careful because they may not see you until the last moment. Follow pedestrian signals at crosswalks, not the signals for motor vehicles.
Matt Kelly Walk to School Day! 10-6-21
A special thank you to the faculty and staff at Matt Kelly ES!
Students walked together from American Legion Post 10, Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, and Nevada Youth Network to Doolittle Park. Safe Routes to School distributed safety drawstring backpacks with walking incentives and pedestrian safety resources. CCSD Police supported this event, helping to keep our students safe. This was an extremely successful event with a DJ, student incentives, and fun dance moves by teachers and administration!
SRTS Walk N Roll Program
The SRTS Walk N Roll Program is a 10-week program designed to encourage a once-a-week walking & rolling program. The fall Walk n Roll program started on October 4, 2021, and runs through December 10, 2021. This program includes a fun incentive package for students to earn by participation. Schools will also receive one scooter, one bike, two helmets, and two locks for their top walk n rollers. Participating schools give their Walk n Roll programs fun names; please see the video below of the program for Lake Elementary School.
ReInvent Schools
Safe Routes to School is partnered with ReInvent Schools to support Fall Festival events. Some of the schools celebrated with a "Trunk or Treat" event while other schools celebrated with fun activities and incentives for the students with valuable information and resources for parents.
Thank you Lunt ES, Ronnow ES, Wasden ES, Cambeiro ES, Lynch ES, & Detwiler ES for allowing us to join you at your Fall Festivals!

Decker ES - Thank You for Driving Safely in a School Zone Campaign.
Decker ES is helping to keep their community safe! Thanks to all the staff and parent volunteers that helped distribute over 200 safety laws to educate and encourage safe driving practices.
Pedestrian Traffic
Question: When walking outside, should you walk on the side of the street in the same direction as traffic, or should you walk opposite, facing traffic?
Answer: Pedestrians
must always walk against traffic. Walk as close to the left side of the road possible using the shoulder or sidewalk, if available. When attempting to cross, always look left, right, and left again
SRTS middle school bike fleet is almost ready to go!
A special thanks to Giant Bike Shop and Las Vegas Cyclery for helping SRTS complete their middle school fleet inventory!
