Education through Diversity - San Jacinto Day
April 21st is known as “San Jacinto Day!” Back in 1836, this was the final day of the Battle of San Jacinto where Texas won its Revolutionary War and became an independent nation.
During the Texas Revolution, Hendrik Arnold, described as one of the boldest pioneers of the west, joined the army and fought valiantly for his adopted country of Texas. He served as a scout, spy, and soldier to help Texans win their Independence from Mexico.
William Goyens was a prominent Texas Businessman and helped the fight for Independence when he assisted the Texas Army by becoming an advisor to Sam Houston. He was well trusted by General Houston and given the vital task of keeping the Cherokee neutral during that time of the Texas Revolution.
Internet Safety
With students bringing home devices from school each night, our lives have shifted, becoming more and more online. Please be aware of what your kids are doing online. Unfortunately, the internet can be a risky place, especially for children.
Please take the following intentional steps so that Rountree and parents work together to ensure the success of every student.
- Where are the devices at night? They should be with you (the adult)- not accessible to kids- yes, teens too!
- How much sleep are your children getting? Actual sleep, not just quiet in their room while you are asleep...
- Have you clicked “Ctrl-H” lately? This will show you all the sites they have visited.
- Remember, you are the parent. Don’t be afraid to take the device away if they are not following the rules.
Allen ISD supports keeping kids safe. We are here to help and support you. Click below for more ways to keep your family safe.
Character Trait of the Month of April: Positive Attitude
During April, teachers will be looking for students who demonstrate a Positive Attitude.
This can look like smiling at others; trying to see the good in every situation; not throwing a fit when you don’t get your way. Additionally, a positive attitude can sound like this - I understand; we can do hard things; let’s try again.
Don’t Forget-- at the end of each month, we will recognize and reward these positive behaviors that we are seeing at Rountree.
