HYBRID LEARNING 2/26/21
Welcome to hybrid learning! We have been preparing our building for the return of students in our classrooms and now that day is finally upon us. Beginning March 1st our 4th-6th grade students will start hybrid learning with Cohort A coming on Mondays and Thursdays and Cohort B coming on Tuesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays will be used for teacher planning and professional development. There will be asynchronous and applied learning activities for all students on these days. I will use this space to answer some Frequently Asked Question as well as post an orientation video of what students and parents can expect from hybrid learning (see below).
FAQ
Q: Where do students enter the building?
A: 4th-6th students will line up outside their classroom door on the markings that have been spaced out 6ft. 7th and 8th graders will have their own entrance outside the gym under the covered area. We are doing this to limit the amount of people in the hallways.
Q: Where do we drop off and pick up?
A: Again, to limit the amount of foot traffic in the hallways it would be best if students were dropped off and picked up on Larch St. This is the road that runs between YCIS and the District Office. Students getting dropped off here will have easy access to their classrooms without having to travel through the main building. See Diagram Below.
Q: How does Lunch and Recess Work?
A: Did you know that the Yamhill-Carlton School District will provide free breakfast and lunch to all of our students? Breakfast will be available for students upon entering their classroom in the morning. Lunch counts will be taken in the morning and delivered to their classrooms. For 7th and 8th grade they will be delivered to your student's 2nd period class. Students will eat with their cohort in their classroom. Of course, students can bring their own lunch if they choose to do so. There will be no microwave available for their use. Lunch is from 11:00-11:40 included in this time frame will be a recess/break where each grade level cohort will be assigned to a separate area on campus.
Students can pick up a packaged lunch for the following day as they board the busses or they will also be distributed underneath the covered area at the end of the day.
Q: Will there be Chromebooks and charging stations available?
A: Yes. There will be a limited number of chrome books and charging stations available. All students need to bring in their chromebooks everyday with a fully charged battery.
Q: Will students be assigned a locker?
A: No. To eliminate congestion in the hallways and to minimize contact surface areas we will not be assigning lockers this year. 7th and 8th grade students are allowed to carry their backpacks from class to class.
Q: What are the expectations for attendance?
A: Attendance will be taken everyday for both In-Person and CDL students. Attendance will also be taken on Wednesday's asynchronous learning day. If you have a planned absence please inform our front office.
Q: How often will classrooms be cleaned and sanitized?
A: Our classrooms and high contact surface areas will be cleaned and sanitized throughout the day. Classrooms will be wiped down and sanitized prior to another cohort entering the room.
Q: What are the expectations for wearing masks?
A: Masks are required in the classroom and must also be worn when they are outside at recess. There will be opportunities throughout the day for teacher directed mask breaks.
Q: Can my student switch back to Comprehensive Distance Learning or go from CDL to Hybrid?
A: Please understand that our cohorts have to be of a certain size based on the square footage of the classroom. The cohort sizes must include the adults in the room as well. With some of our cohort sizes nearing capacity it will be very difficult to shift students around. We are asking that families commit to Hybrid or CDL and stay with that for the rest of the school year.
Q: Are parents allowed in the building?
A: Unfortunately, we are not allowed to have visitors in our school. If you need to access the main office please sign in our contact tracing log and sanitize your hands prior to entering office.
Q: Where is the Orientation Video?
A: At the bottom of this page
We want this to be a successful transition for everyone. Your patience and understanding as we begin this process is appreciated. Please reach out to us for any questions or clarifications.
Sincerely,
