Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by Shah Jahan in 1632-1643. The Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan. Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal for his wife who he loved. Her name was Arjunamand Banu Begum. The Taj Mahal was made of gemstones and marble. Over 20,000 people worked on building the Taj Mahal. It took 22 years. The Taj Mahal has two pillars next to it, and the Agra "Red" Fort behind it. It is placed near the banks of the Yamuna river with several lotuses in it. It is known as one of the 7 wonders of the world, and is a huge attraction in India. The Taj Mahal is pictured to the right.

About the architect, Shah Jahan

Shah Jahan, the main architect of the Taj Mahal, had fallen in love with one of his wives, Arjunamand Banu Begum. He was a prince at the time, and his father was emperor. He wanted the throne so badly, but there were 2 other people in line to be King. Shah Jahan argued with his dad, but nothing went his way. He was in trouble and as a punishment he was banned from the kingdom for 3 years until his father forgave him. They eventually settled their differences and then his father passed away. Shah Jahan was then pronounced emperor. He had done great as emperor, and his military was very strong. However he became very sick in 1657, and he had to hand his position of emperor to his son Aurangzeb in 1658. However his son arrested him, in the Agra Fort. Shah Jahan remained there till he died.

Taj Mahal Symbols, and Components.

The Taj Mahal symbolizes a wonderful love story. The monument itself was built out of the love from Shah Jahan. It's beauty and amazing display was all because of the love Shah Jahan posessed. It has many phrases and symbols on it which are from many cultures, such as, Hinduism, the Mughal Culture, and the Persian Culture. It highlights diversity with its cultural influences. Many people have learned from this specific work of art that, if you love something, you should pursue it, and work for it. In this scenario, Shah Jahan built a grand memorial. It has incredible landscaping features including its garden, which took almost 30 years to complete. The Taj Mahal is 1,900 feet by 1,000 feet in total. It has two pillars beside it which are 138 feet each. It stands on a rectangular shaped base. The Taj Mahal is a true work of art.
