Fall Fun - Outside and loving it!

I smell Autumn in the breeze, the sweet chill of pumpkin, and crisp sunburnt leaves.

We read outside with our book buddies this week and enjoyed recess time with the leaves starting to fall!

Farm to School Week

Mrs. Ackenbom's little ponies made three apple pies on Friday during our math rotation. We enjoyed eating one of them during lunch, but then wanted to donate the other two pies. After careful thought, we all decided to give one pie to the custodians who stay late and have to eat dinner at school and the other to the women who baked the pies for us even after having to make lunch for hundreds of students. There were smiles all around and it was a lot of fun to fill someone's bucket full of love and thankfulness!

Mokie Monday

We began our Equine Studies unit this week with a big kick off this past Monday. All First Graders visited each classroom to watch a video clip about our pony Mokie, learn about the horse books we have in our school library, and make a horse craft. We will visit Camp Friendship where Mokie lives this Thursday. Please let me know if you have any questions about our trip and meeting Mokie! :}

Book It

The Book It calendar was sent home in Tuesday folders if you wish to participate. Color in the picture for each day after reading 15-20 minutes with your child and send it back to me at the end of the month. You will then receive a Pizza Hut coupon for a free personal pan pizza. Below are an electronic version of the calendar and further information about the program. Happy reading!

If you have any questions at all, please let me know! Also, don't forget about the free Fall Family Day on October 17th if you want to visit Camp for a fun day outside!

Upcoming News

*If you would like to sign up for parent/teacher conferences and have not yet done so, please e-mail, call, or write a note in the Blue Book and we can find a day and time that works for us all! I look forward to meeting with everyone! :D I have truly enjoyed meeting with most families so far!

About Mrs. Ackenbom

I am from a military family and grew up in several areas around the United States. I received my B.A. from the University of Mary Washington in American Studies. I enjoyed Mary Washington so much that I decided to stay and get my Masters of Science in Elementary Education. This will be my ninth year as a teacher and I love being a part of a child's individual learning journey. In addition to teaching, I am passionate about horseback riding and being active outside. I am very excited to be working at Crozet Elementary this year!

About Us

We are Mrs. Ackenbom's Little Ponies! We want to learn something new every day. We use kind words with others. We treat others with kindness and compassion. We share. We take turns. We apologize. We have fun. We are first graders at Crozet Elementary - where we inspire and are inspired by the world around us!
