Important message for Highview families
Important message from your principal
Dear Highview Community:
I hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected as we navigate these unchartered waters. I appreciate all of you being part of the Highview community in such an unprecedented time period.
As you know from District communication, Governor Walz has ordered Minnesota schools to be closed March 23rd through March 27th and has asked that schools use that time to prepare for distance learning. District teams have been meeting every day to create robust plans for learning to begin on March 30, 2020.
In an effort to plan for potential distance learning, we invite students who do not have access to a Chromebook to come to Highview Middle School on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of next week to pick up a device. At that time, students may also pick up materials from their locker, get their instruments, and parents may pick up any needed emergency medication. In order to keep the recommended social distancing, we will not be having anyone enter the building. All items will be delivered curbside.
Because of the need to be able to accomodate all of our families in an efficient manner, we have broken down times when families should come to the building. You may choose either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday in the time slots listed below.
Curbside Pick-up
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 24, 25 & 26
Please use the map below with our drive-through model to pick-up a chromebook, locker contents and/or medications for your student.
Meals for students
Starting Monday, March 23, meals are available for any child under 18 years who needs breakfast or lunch during the school closure. Meals will be distributed curbside Monday through Friday at the main entrance of Pinewood Elementary, Snail Lake Education Center, Highview Middle School and Edgewood Middle School between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Times and locations will be reviewed based on student need. Parents/guardians are asked to accompany their student(s) to pick-up a grab-and-go lunch and a breakfast for the following morning.
If there are any barriers that prevent you from picking up a meal at one of these locations, please fill out this form.
These are unprecedented times and we appreciate our partnership with you and your family. If you have any questions or concerns, you are welcome to reach out to your child’s dean, to our Associate Principal, Ben Chiri, or to me directly. It is difficult to think about not being in session -- we will miss that in-person contact with your child! Once the teacher completes their distance learning plans, we will share them with you and your student on March 30th.
Please continue to visit the Mounds View School District Website at www.moundsviewschools.org for the most up-to-date information. As you know, the district has a constantly-updated resource page about the coronavirus linked here.
Thank you for your support, flexibility and understanding during this difficult time our community and country is facing. We are a strong community and we will get through this challenge together.
Stay safe and healthy,
Sheila Eller
