The final round of book orders will be due May 20th

Reading Round Up

We have finished our final major project of the year, our historical figure research. Students did a great job determining if sources were reliable and paraphrasing the information they gathered. I love reading their research books, because I always learn new things about interesting people.

The end is near! Are you ready for summer? I will be submitting one last book order on May 20th. If you would like to order, please use the link above to order online. My paper flyers were inadvertently recycled, so this is the only ordering method available this month. Books will be delivered before school is out.

Writing Notes

Last week the students worked on finishing their research projects. I was impressed with their finished books. The students celebrated their hard work on the research project by sharing their books with the class today! Students moved from table to table leaving positive comments on their peers books.

This week we took a break from big writing projects. The students created poetry with their articles they printed. They were to find words in their article to create the poem. After they found their words, they drew an image on the page that represented their historical figure.

Next week, we will discuss memoirs!

Math in a Minute

Last week, students finished a project they have been working on. This project will be their second major grade. Homework will be assigned on Monday and will be due on Thursday. This will be the last homework assignment of the year :)

From the Science Lab

We are working on building our model rockets. One note, it looks like the weather may not cooperate for painting the rockets next week. If so, we will just bump the launch date to the following week when the weather is suitable.

Social Studies

We continue to learn about the Battle of Gettysburg. Ask your student which stations they've completed. Have they tasted hard tack? Have they performed surgery? Did they come up with an effective strategy for where to place their troops?

Year Books

Year books went home today. Please be sure to remind your student that they need to stay at home until we tell them to bring them back for signing. Our yearbooks are always awesome, but they can cause quite a distraction while we are trying to work.

MPJH Field Trip on Wednesday

We will be going to tour MPJH this Wednesday, May 18th. Please be sure to sign and return the permission slip for your student. This is a fun opportunity for out students to see their future campus and hear what to expect in the fall. (It's always fun for the teachers, too, because we get to see our past students!)
