The AIM HIGH Flight Academy is an effort by the Air Force Recruiting Services (AFRS) to expose our nation’s youth to a career in aviation. This highly selective program offers students who are accepted, the opportunity to receive training on how to fly a plane. The AIM HIGH Flight Academy chooses students based on their applications, which are evaluated by Air Force Recruiting staff. To apply for this program, you must be between the ages of 16-23. You must be a full-time student in High School, College, or you can be an enlisted member of any service. College students must be enrolled at the United States Air Force Academy or in Air Force ROTC.
The application to the AIM HIGH Flight Academy opened in the late summer of 2021, with the deadline being in early December later last year. Open to those eligible internationally, this selective program only offers 72 applicants a spot in the program, upon passing a highly competitive selection board. The selection process is a quantitative board based on answers and inputs to the application. An applicant’s score is 3 parts: endorsements, general experiences, and aviation experiences. These 3 parts are weighted to comprise an overall score based on a 100-point scale. Weighting is as follows: endorsements are weighted at 50%, 30% for general experiences, and 20% for aviation interest and involvement demonstrated on their application.
Friday, January 7th, 2022, Sasha Umansky, an Oak Ridge High School junior, received her acceptance into the AIM HIGH Flight Academy. Sasha, a third year NJROTC cadet, holding the position of Cadet Commanding Officer, was encouraged to apply in the early fall using the Wildcat Battalion as her nominating organization. With the contributions of those in the program alongside the efforts of both, Senior Naval Science Instructor Keith Klemm and Naval Science Instructor Chief Ryan Nicholls, Sasha is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to not only be a part of the NJROTC program but also for the incitement from those within the battalion as well. Sasha will be traveling, this summer, to Milton, Florida for three weeks to take part in the AIM-HIGH Flight Academy. She will be training in a Cessna 172 L/M/N and earning a certificate of completion for a beginner pilot level with the completion of 15 hours of flight training, qualifying for a chance for Sasha to fly a plane solo.
Go Navy!

FAFSA - AS EASY AS 1 - 2 - 3!
52% OF ORHS SENIORS HAVE COMPLETED THE FAFSA!!!
ORHS WANTS TO BE A FAFSA CHAMPION!
ORHS IS PARTICIPATING IN THE FAFSA CHALLENGE - WE WILL UPDATE THE NUMBER OF SENIORS COMPLETING THE FAFSA WEEKLY.
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission and Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (THEC/TSAC) are excited to announce the TN FAFSA Challenge, a statewide campaign for Tennessee public high schools to increase the FAFSA completion rates among Tennessee students.
While Tennessee continues to be a leader in nationwide FAFSA completion, there is still work to be done. Students who complete the FAFSA are more likely to enroll in higher education, persist in their college coursework, and obtain a degree.
As part of the Challenge, THEC/TSAC plans to honor high schools who are able to increase FAFSA completion in their schools. Specifically, we are encouraging high schools to increase the share of their Tennessee Promise applicants who complete a FAFSA. High schools that increase their Tennessee Promise FAFSA completion rate by 5 percentage points OR have 95 percent of Tennessee Promise applicants complete a FAFSA will be designated as FAFSA Champions. We also plan to honor the high schools that have the highest FASFA completion rate and those that have the largest year over year improvement for the entire state.
UPDATE FROM TSAC AS OF THURSDAY, JANUARY 7TH
