Supporting Students Through the Stretch to Spring
Our classes have been together for over 100 days and enjoyed so much time learning and growing. Students and cohorts have also grown comfortable with one another which may lead to a more relaxed (even avoidant) attitude to school as well as more challenging times as they navigate friendships. This is especially true for our 5th graders as they see their culmination and transition to middle school on the horizon.
Not all hope is lost and there are things that we can do to help ease these next few weeks of school:
- Help to remind and reinforce expected behaviors with your students. At school, we consistently remind our Stallions to Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Safe.
- Hold your student accountable. This is the time of year when students' judgement may falter and they may even engage in misbehavior. Taking risks and testing boundaries are developmentally appropriate but it's our job as the adults to hold them accountable and guide them when they make mistakes.
- Words matter. Before the break we noted an uptick in students testing inappropriate language around campus. Help remind your students, if they wouldn't say it in front of you or their teacher then, they shouldn't use that language with peers.
- Partner with your classroom teacher. If you notice a change in your student, they report friendship troubles, or express new feelings toward school, let your child's teacher know.
If everyone engages in these practices we will all enjoy and happier stretch to spring. As always, we are here to support and partner with you.

Your Feedback is Needed!
The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is a three-year plan that defines many of the services provided for students. We are gathering feedback as we transition into the final year of our three-year plan. Your participation in this survey is very important to this process, as we evaluate the impact of the actions and services in the plan. Please complete the survey by clicking here.

The Attendance Challenge Continues...
This coming month we will have an attendance challenge! If we increase our student attendance overall to over 93% this month (ending 3/3), the students will collectively earn a school reward of a Fun Friday (additional recess) to celebrate. Please continue to keep your child home if they are sick as the spread of the flu/cold, etc. will have a larger impact on our schoolwide goal than one student missing a day or two due to illness.
I believe we can do this Stallions and look forward to celebrating. I may even have to wear my shark costume for the day again when we reach our goal!
