On September 30th, Haverford High School students Malena Duque-Baird and Jean Park participated in The Big Thing: A Summit to Change Young Lives along with student leaders from Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. The summit engaged students, parents, and leaders serving youth from across the region to collaborate on ideas on how schools can:

• Connect students to work-related skills that prepare them for the careers they want after high school
• Understand and nurture student mental health so they and their fellow students can focus better and learn more
• Assure that every teacher recognizes and embraces the cultural diversity of their students; and
• Ensure that their school's teachers are as diverse as the students they serve

“This summit was a really unique experience relative to other leadership experiences I’ve had because most of the other attendees were teachers (instead of students), so hearing about change-making in schools from a teacher’s perspective was very eye-opening. I left the conference with a greater understanding of the steps I can take to maximize my efforts as a student working with adults to seek change and progress,” shared Malena Duque-Baird.

Jean Park shared, "It was an eye-opening experience to just be in a room full of people working towards diversifying schools. As a student, it can be difficult to speak out, especially in a room of adults or in class, but being at the summit really helped me to realize being vocal can start at a small level."

Haverford High School Boy's basketball coach, Keith Heinerichs, has been selected as a PIAA/NFHS Coach of the Year. During the 21-22 basketball season Coach Heinerichs earned his 100th win at Haverford and his 300th career win. He has Central League Championships at both Ridley and Haverford High Schools and last year the basketball team had a come-from-behind victory vs. Lower Merion and took the eventual State Champion (Roman Catholic) to the wire in the PIAA State Playoffs. Coach Heinerichs was also instrumental in getting Haverford Sports Media off the ground.

"I am very honored and humbled by this award. The relationships I have been a part of with the students, faculty, coaches, and administration in the school community have been awesome, " stated Coach Heinerichs. "We had a special season last year with a lot of great moments that happened because everyone believed and cared about one another. The players deserve all the credit for the success of our team, they played hard and unselfish all the time."

Coach Heinerichs resides in Haverford Township and has taught for 25 years at Ridley High School. He has coached basketball for 23 years, 11 of them at Haverford. Andrea, his wife, teaches and coaches at Haverford Middle School and their three children are his biggest fans! " I am so proud to represent my school and the community where I live," shared Coach Heinerichs.

Coaches are nominated from their school communities, PA coaches’ associations, Board of Directors, and State Association staff. Coaches are then selected based on their impact on their specific sports program, the success of their program, adherence to PIAA By-laws, and sportsmanship throughout the year.

On October 24th, the district went live with School Pass, an attendance reporting system that assists our school staff with tracking absences. SchoolPass provides parents/guardians the ability to make attendance changes for their student(s) with the click of a button, without having to call or email the office. Parents/guardians received an email from noreply@schoolpass.com with their login credentials for SchoolPass.

Did you know that new clubs and activities were added to all our schools this year? If you like astronomy, singing, playing badminton, or world affairs, there is a club for you! The high school recently held its activities fair for all students to come to the gym and learn about the 109 clubs and activities that are offed. The Middle School offers over 40 Clubs and activities including the new tennis teams! And more activities have been added at the elementary schools such as dance, flag football, school plays, board game, chess, and art clubs to name a few! 2. The holiday has a rich and ancient history, dating back over 2000 years. It is not a somber holiday.

3. Mexican families place Ofrendas (spanish for offerings) on a shrine to honor their deceased relatives.

4. During the holiday, Mexican Marigolds are seen growning everywhere and are a key component to the celebration, because the strong smell is believed to attract spirits.

5. Different traditions exist in different parts of the country of Mexico.

Saturday, November 5th from 10 am - 1 pm at Haverford HS

The Haverford Science Academy and Science National Honor Society students are excited to host a day of Science, Math, and Coding fun! The students and teachers have organized demonstrations, make-and-takes, and interactive experiences for the elementary students in the district. This fall they are planning over 20 unique experiences! We look forward to seeing you! No cost to attend.

The 2022 Haverford High School 's Diaper Drive is underway. Diapers cost more than $100 a month and 3 out of 10 mothers cannot afford an adequate supply of dry diapers. With your help, the goal is to stuff the bus with new packages of diapers to help alleviate this problem for members of our community. Can you help by donating diapers or making a Venmo donation @Diaper-Drive-1 or scan the QR Code. You can drop off diapers in the high school main office and at the YMCA in Havertown.

Congratulations to Haverford HS student Nicholas Borgesi who has been selected for the All National Honor Choir. The NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles (ANHE) represent the top performing high school musicians in the United States. So much more than a musical showcase, the ANHE program is a comprehensive and educational experience. The 2022 ensembles will meet under the leadership of top conductors in the field of music education. In the spring of 2022, Nicholas was also selected for the PMEA All-State Choir.

Throughout the school year, student artwork is on display in the Superintendent's conference room. This fall, Samara Talkin's Digital Photography class displayed their views of nature in our community. Each student went outside and looked for things that exemplify the current season, or evidence that the next season is arriving and looked for compositions that include multiple textures. Students and their families were invited to a reception with Dr. Reusche to discuss their work and learn about their inspirations.

The Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA) is proud to recognize The School District of Haverford Township for its commitment to visual arts education with the endorsement of Outstanding Visual Arts Community 2022. PAEA empowers its members to transform their practices, students, colleagues, and communities to build a strong art education culture and citizenry.

Districts receiving this endorsement demonstrate the importance of their visual arts programs with:

• Rigorous and Inclusive Programs: Arts programs demonstrate rigor using standards-based curricula taught at every level by highly qualified and certified art educators.
• Highly Accessible Programs: Art programs are offered to all students at every level of education with a sustainable budget for the visual arts.
• Highly Visible Programs: Schools and districts identify their programmatic accomplishments, curriculum for all levels, art staff, mission statements, and arts events using their school websites and social media.
