Hello Knox Families!
Happy Spring! During the month of April, our Knox students have been very busy learning in their classrooms and setting goals for success. Last week, we had a testing kickoff assembly. All students received their SBAC (state testing) scores for ELA/Math for the last 2 years. Students then had the opportunity to set a Math and English goal. Please talk with your student about the goals that they set.
Ways to support your student for testing:
- Talk with them about their goals.
- Ensure they get lots of rest the night before.
- Students must arrive on time for breakfast. Advisory is shortened on testing days.
- Encourage your student with positive words promoting a Growth Mindset.
Report cards will be mailed out Tuesday of this week (Progress Report 4). Please continue to check Power School Parent Portal for all missing assignments.
Knox has been awarded a 3-year musical theater grant beginning next school year. The grant will allow us to work with La Jolla playhouse to provide an after school musical theater program at Knox.
REMINDER:
8th grade students need to earn passing grades in all of their classes by June 7th at 4:00pm for participation in our Knox Promotion Ceremony. A letter was sent out to all 8th grade families outlining the criteria for participation in promotion and all End of the Year activities.
We will continue our second school-wide Advisory read aloud of the book Becoming Naomi León. Please ask your student about the book. We will continue our Advisory read-aloud program, in order to promote our school-wide literacy focus.
Our library is open! We encourage all students to read for 20 minutes a night independently. Students can check out books during Advisory or lunch time.
All Knox students have nightly math homework. Homework is assigned from a math packet that is given to the students at the start of each chapter.
Math tutoring is available every day in room 107 from 3:15-4:15.
Please remind your student to stay on the sidewalk when walking home from school. This is very important for student safety. Also, all students that ride bikes, skateboards, and scooters must wear a helmet.
