Wellness Wednesdays

This week for Wellness Wednesday, our kids were presented with the following concept and question:

“The beauty of social awareness is that a few simple adjustments to what you say can vastly improve your relationships with other people.”

What are some things that you have said to others that helped improve your relationship with them?

Below are a list of ways you can engage your child in little ways that just may help improve your relationship with them!

Big picture

Clubs have gotten off to a good start. This coming week Mr. Mosby will start SCIENCE BOWL where students in grades 6, 7 and 8 can join in the fun learning about Science and competing against other middle school teams. The Art Club will start the first week of November with Mrs. Pettus and include lots of new ideas. Chess Club will begin in December. JOIN US! Club information/contact info for club advisors can be found on our website.

SPIRIT WEEK and Costumes

Monday, October 25: Pajama Day

Tuesday, October 26: Flannel Day

Wednesday, October 27: Wacky Wednesday (crazy hair, hat, socks, glasses, etc.)

Thursday, October 28: Color Day, wear orange and black

Friday, October 29: Costume Day, Halloween Parade

  • The parade will begin promptly at 8:30am
  • Costumes are encouraged, however please remember that all school rules apply: no depictions of violence/bloodshed/gore, no props/weapons/weapon look-a-likes, no full face masks, no face paint (masks covering nose/mouth are still required).

Red Ribbon Week

Next week is Red Ribbon Week, the nation's largest drug-abuse prevention campaign. This year's theme is "Drug Free Looks Like Me." At AMS we'll be observing Red Ribbon Week in our Launchpads and Morning Meetings by sharing important drug facts about illegal drugs and other harmful substances. Our Wellness Wednesday question will ask students to share their reasons for staying drug free, and our plan is to create a visual display incorporating some of these responses so that our students can be reminded throughout the year of the importance of staying drug free.

There will be a dance for students for grades 7 & 8 on Friday, October 29 from 7-9pm. Cost for admission is $5 and refreshments will be sold. Masks (covering nose/mouth) are required.

Costumes are permitted, but school rules apply: no depictions of violence, blood, or gore, no props/weapon look-alikes, no masks which fully cover your face (like a hockey mask) and no face paint.

Picture Retake Day, November 5

Students who would like a "re-take" or who did not have their picture taken on our original picture day at the beginning of September will have their photo taken on Friday, November 5 during re-take day. Those who are having a re-take should bring their original photo package with them for exchange. Please take this quick four question School Photography Survey to help us better plan for re-take day and next year's photography. Our new partnership with GESKUS Photography can only get better with your honest feedback. THANK YOU!

Walk-a-thon for Veterans, November 9

As in past years, AMS will resume our school-wide efforts in support of area veterans. The entire AMS community will be walking to honor our local veterans and, beginning November 1, we will gratefully accept donations to help support them in meeting their basic needs . Each grade will wear a different color and carry a service flag on the day of the Walk-a-thon as follows:

  • 5th grade: Air Force Flag & American Flag - RED
  • 6th grade: Army Flag & Coast Guard Flag - BLUE
  • 7th grade: Marine Corps Flag & American Flag - WHITE
  • 8th grade: Navy Flag & POW Flag - BLACK

In recent years, our generous AMS community has supported the Manchester VA Hospital Outreach Program through the purchase of gift cards for groceries and gasoline. We will have collection jars in the lobby for donations of cash or checks made payable to AMS beginning November 1. Since 2014, we've raised over $12,000. Thank you in advance for your support!

Quarter 1 Grades and Comments, November 10

First quarter grades and comments will be available on November 10 in the Empower Parent Portal. The directions for how to sign into Empower as well as the link to the Empower site is available on our website.

Parent Conferences, November 12

Parents should be on the look out for an email from their child's grade level team. Please reach out to your child's integrated arts teachers if you would like to connect with those specific teachers. You can find a list of email addresses on our website.
