News from Ms. Hess
In literacy, we read two realistic fiction books: Shrinking Violet and Miz Berlin Walks. We learned to summarize by focusing on only things that relate back to the theme of the book.
Writers are in the midst of weaving collaborative fairy tales. We learned that conflict moves a story forward and that there are 3 main types: person vs. person, internal, and person vs. nature. Ask your child about his/her fairy tale and what sort of conflict is occurring.
In time traveling, your child is working with a partner to learn about a Native American region and tribe in order to create a Google Slideshow to teach their classmates or a Kahoot quiz to quiz the class over what they learned. It's so fun to see their wheels spin as they realize they are in charge of teaching!
